I seriously doubt there will be any real progress this year. The best hope is that the site will find some use (e.g. car park, festival site) rather than simply doing nothing.

Aye, --I know it's highly unlikely, but, --we can only hope there may be Developers that will show interest this year, ---as for the site at present, ---I read a few months ago, --that the Council intend to construct a temporary Car and Bus Park, ---now your guess is as good as mine as when this will happen.

I noticed the digger on the site yesterday from my viewpoint in the Stadium of Light Premier concourse bar, they appear to have mounded lots of topsoil on the site so I'm wondering if they'll be grassing it over and opening the site up like they did in South Shields before the BT building was built? It would certainly improve the look of the site and illustrate the viewpoints available without the hordings in place.

Does anyone think it will just become a housing development now?

Do Tesco still own the site?

The Council bought the Vaux site last year chris, ---as for any Developments, ---there was quite a few interested a couple of years ago, --but we all know whats happened, --but the Council set out a blue print of what it wants on the site, --and this includes --office buildings/Hotels/Housing /small retail/and a Public square, ---there was also a new Justice Building, --but this is now planned for the near by Farringdon Row site,--think everyone is just hoping for some movement this year.

It'll be nice to see the site opened up and grassed for the summer.

Yeah I agree, ---it will make a big difference to see this area landscaped, and put to good use with a car/bus park, --should have been done years ago.

We passed by the Vaux site yesterday, --and they have begun surveying the site, --as there were some profiles in place, ---so hopefully won't be long before they begin constructing the temporary car/bus park.

The Vaux site in Sunderland is to receive £8m of funding for its redevelopment as a business hub.

It's part of a city-wide investment package worth £60m that was approved as part of Sunderland City Council's 2012/2013 budget.

Vaux closed in 1999, ending more than 150 years of brewing history.

The derelict 26-acre site was bought by Tesco in 2001 but was left to fall into disrepair for a decade as planners and developers wrangled over the future use of the site.

Tesco sold the land back to Sunderland City Council in February 2011, and the authority has now allocated the cash to bring the Vaux site back from its derelict state.

I haven't read about this anywhere else, ---but it's good news, ---now we need Developers to come forward with plans for this prime site, --sooner rather than later, --but won't be holding my breath.

A couple of photos that I took this morning. 17/03/2012

They appear to have built a small access road and the profiles are in place with works progressing at the West side of the site.

Cheers for the pictures .. They make you realise the size of this site ! Bloody massive area of land to be sitting unused .
