Romanian Co Metrorex To Spend Up To RON60M On Subway Line Extension Works

Bucharest subway company Metrorex will pay an estimated 59.5 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2282), VAT not included, to finalize construction works on subway sector 1 Mai-Parc Bazilescu, part of mainline IV, the company said Monday.

Metrorex will set up two online auctions to select the companies that will execute the works.

The first auction targets works on installations and finishing operations on technical spaces, for an estimated RON31.3 million, VAT not included. The contract will run for one year and bids will be disclosed on March 25.

The second auction targets works on subway rails and subway car safety, for an estimated RON28.2 million, VAT not included. The contract will run for eight months and bids will be disclosed on February 25.

Both auctions are funded from the state budget and contracts will be assigned to the bidders with the most advantageous financial offer, with the price accounting for 80% and the technical offer accounting for 20%.

Subway mainline IV consists of four stations along subway sector 1 Mai-Gara de Nord and will be finalized in two stages, subway sector 1 Mai-Laromet and sector Laromet-Zarea, respectively.

In 2009, Metrorex carried over 500,000 passengers on average daily, slightly up from an average 479,000 passengers daily in 2008, and it increased its transport capacity by 19% on the year.

Cosmin, are you interested in opening a thread about Bucharest's subway? At leasting posting a presentation with maps etc....so that we can catch on from there. I remember we had some nice renders of the future stations on M5 and they looked quite nice....so it should be an interesting thread also because we have some works starting this year.

Actually, I've been thinking about opening such a thread for a long time now. Alas, procrastination is a bitch.

Think I'll just shelve some info for that thread and just open it. But bare in mind that the Infrastructure and Mobility forum will be undergoing a reorganization soon and I'd rather wait until it's complete.

OK. If you think it's better to wait until the reorganisation is completed, then I also think it is better. We'll get better visibility I guess?

Better visibility by having a thread there, but not by waiting for the reorganization (unless a ton of threads are merged/deleted). I'd just like to know the new structure, but if I find some time or if this process takes too long, I'll open the thread before.

Whats up with M5 for 2010? Are they starting to dig in from Ghencea or something? And if they are going to, are they going to close some boulevards over there soon or just project over projects and nothing serious?

In plus, cateva idei esentiale pe care as vrea sa le retii...

3) Impingerea unui caine in fata unui tren, dupa parerea mea, ar trebui sanctionata destul de aspru. Nu prea e treaba ta sa arunci obiecte sau fiinte (!) in fata unui tren.

13.01.2010

Japan To Lend EUR315M To Romania For Bucharest Train Station-Airport Subway Line Project

The Japanese Government will grant a loan of JPY41.87 billion (nearly EUR315 million) to Romania for the construction of a subway line reaching the international airport in Otopeni, outside capital city Bucharest, Romania’s Transport Ministry said Wednesday.

Transport Minister Radu Berceanu on Wednesday met with Japan's Ambassador to Bucharest, Natsuo Amemiya, who told Berceanu the Japanese Government decided to grant Romania a Japanese ODA (Overseas Development Aid) Loan to help extend Bucharest's subway network towards Otopeni.

According to the technical project, the subway line, meant to connect the city's main train station to the international airport, should be completed in seven years and will be nearly 16 kilometers long, will have 19 stops, one depot and will cost a total EUR1.05 billion to make and equip. The new subway line should carry 50,000 passengers per hour.
