I'd read somewhere that the HBLRT and the Newark City Subway were supposed to be integrated via Elizabeth. I don't know if this plan is still alive though.

No , NJT dumped those plans , the PATH has picked them up......The Newark - Elizabeth line is still planned. But not the Newark - Elizabeth via Jersey Gardens.

South to 8th Street (opens late fall or mid-winter) & North to Tenafly opens 2014. Hoboken Terminal to Secaucus JCT via Journal SQ near planned new developments....opens 2017. Secaucus JCT to Newport , in limbo due to a bad deal. Across the state about 230 miles of LRT and Urban Rail are planned to connect neighborhoods , Regional Rail with Urban Centers and Cities.

55-60mph , the Average speed on the Newark Main line is 40mph but the stations are so close together it seems slower.

Just 2 weeks left until service starts at 8th Street, the HBLR's newest station in Bayonne.

That's according to the new schedule for HBLR on the NJT Web site:
http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/upcoming/T0100.pdf

20 minutes to Exchange place
31 minutes to Hoboken Terminal

weekday-only Bayonne Flyer:
17 minutes to Exchange Place
27 minutes to Hoboken Terminal

some trains during weekday peak will only start at 22nd Street

Never realised that there were light rail systems in New Jersey. I always assumed rail transit out of New York was limited to PATH and NJT. I assume the Newark and Hudson-Bergen systems act as feeder services to PATH and NJT.

My question is, why dosn't the River Line run into central Philadelphia, as I believe Camden is quite close to it (correct me if i'm wrong).
