NJ Lawmakers Listen To Pleas To Extend Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Into Bergen County
January 9, 2015 12:00 PM

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Some northern New Jersey mayors met with lawmakers on Wednesday to push for extending NJ Transit’s light rail north of its last Hudson County stop.

As WCBS 880’s Levon Putney reported, right now, Sen. Loretta Weinberg says she and Senate President Steve Sweeney could only listen to the Bergen County mayors’ pleas to finally extend the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail into Bergen County.

“So that is an issue that the legislature has to address,” she said.

Weinberg said those in her district working in the city mainly either drive or take the bus to a Port Authority terminal– which is not equipped to handle 240,000 riders a day.
“Versus the marble World Trade Center station that handles 40,000 people a day,” she said.

The WTC also has a new PATH station, so she says expanding the rail and getting more riders on trains is the way to go.

I posted the top view on the previous page. It is a popular Elevator as it connects The Heights Section of Jersey City to Hoboken..., there are only 3 ways down and this is the easiest...

N.J. Democrats 'agitate' for light rail funding

ENGLEWOOD — About a dozen north Jersey Democratic elected officials today got together to say they're determined to make the "Bergen" in Hudson-Bergen Light Rail mean something.

"Let's get real. The name says 'Hudson-Bergen.' It's not the Hudson Bergen light rail," said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, standing next to part of the proposed route in downtown Englewood. "It's the Hudson light rail. It was made to come to Bergen County, and with the support and the help of the people behind me, it will become a reality."

The trains were packed yesterday on the Newark LRT due to the Cherry Blossom Festival , various events in Downtown and the warm weather... Standing room only and tetris like conditions inbound and outbound...

NJ Transit installing cameras on all light rail trains in response to spate of robberies

By Larry Higgs | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
on April 24, 2015 at 1:05 PM, updated April 24, 2015 at 5:45 PM

Cameras are coming to NJ Transit's light rail trains in a response to riders' concerns about security and a spate of cellphone robberies on the Newark city subway.

"The River Line has implemented on-board cameras, which NJ Transit police can use to monitor activity on the (light rail) vehicle. Cameras will be rolled out in June on Hudson-Bergen and Newark Light Rail lines," said Janice Pepper, NJ Transit director of research.
