They quit the Pendolino service 2010. Right now CD is using ordinary EC rolling stock for that relation.

...including some couchette cars? Great. but there exist not so many opportunities to use them on internal routes, does CD plan any new international night trains?

No new international trains. Bcmz cars will replace old GDR couchette cars currently operating on the nightlines to Slovakia, Krakow and Budapest.

As for the 25 Bmz, 18 of them will be completely gutted and overhauled to "Grossraum" Bbdmpz with WC and compartment for disabled and hooks for bikes.

To my knowledge only 9 out of those 18 will be converted to Bbdmpz and the other 9 to Bmpz. Those cars will then be used for international travel between Hamburg and Prague by 2015.

CD started to use Raijets between Praha and Brno. The units will be used irregularly and in a testing phase. In June there should be already 4 units on the Praha - Wien relation. In December the Praha - Wien relation should be opened for regular operation of the Railjets.

Pendolino and Railjet in Prague.

It should be in the autumn. I don't know the exact date. Brno won't be included as it needs to be decided first where the new/rebuilt station will be.

Kapsch wins Czech GSM-R contracts
Friday, May 16, 2014

CZECH infrastructure manager SŽDC has awarded Kapsch CarrierCom, Austria, two contracts to install GSM-R covering 330 route-km of lines in the central Czech Republic.

The first contract covers 110 route-km and includes the Prague – Beroun – Králuv Dvur, Prague – Benešov and Prague – Lysá nad Labem lines. The rollout of GSM-R on these lines will be completed within 21 months.

The second 26-month contract covers the 220km Kolín – Havlíčkuv Brod – Křižanov – Brno line.

Kapsch says it will supply a geo-redundant GSM-R core network for these lines and expand the access

Upgraded stock to work ČD’s Praha –Hamburg services
29 May 2014

CZECH REP: State-owned passenger operator ČD has called bids for the refurbishment of EuroCity and InterCity coaches to be used on Praha – Berlin – Hamburg services from the December 2015 timetable change.

The move follows the signing of a collaboration agreement between ČD and DB on May 22 for the operation of EuroCity services on the cross-border route. This runs for five years from December 2015, with an optional five-year extension.

The long-standing collaboration between the two railways had been interrupted in April 2012, when DB selected private operator RegioJet as its exclusive partner. However, RegioJet was unable to fund the acquisition of new rolling stock because of losses on its Praha – Ostrava open access service where it competes with ČD.

Under the new accord there will be six EC trains each way between Praha and Berlin, of which three will continue to Hamburg. They will run at a regular 2 h interval, connecting in Praha with the ČD/ÖBB Railjet service to and from Wien. Five trains will be operated by ČD, and the sixth by Hungary’s MÁV-Start as a Budapest – Praha – Hamburg service. As well as increased marketing of the service, the two railways have committed to improve the level of passenger comfort.

The modernisation contracts will see 93 coaches upgraded for 200 km/h operation, including first and second-class coaches and restaurant cars. All will get upgraded interiors with air-conditioning, at-seat power sockets, wi-fi, audio-visual information and reservation systems, and vacuum toilets. Each trainset will also have spaces for wheelchairs and bicycles plus a children’s play area.

The first tender covers modernisation of 63 coaches of types Ampz, Bmz and WRmz supplied by Siemens in 1999-2006, with an option for eight more Ampz. These are ČD’s newest inter-city coaches, but the interiors are worn out, and the Ampz seats need to be replaced. This contract is valued at around KC500m.

The second contract, worth Kc425m, covers the rebuilding of 22 second-hand Bmz coaches. Of these, nine will be converted into Type Bmpz open-saloon cars and nine into Type Bbdmpz with a multi-functional space for wheelchairs and a service compartment. These cars form part of a batch of 25 Bmz and nine couchette cars being bought from ÖBB under a KC267m deal signed in April.

The Praha – Berlin – Hamburg trains are to be hauled by ČD Class 380 multi-voltage electric locomotives, which were previously expected to operate the Railjet trains to Austria. However, these have not yet been certified to operate at 200 km/h on DB Netz tracks

CD Siemens Viaggio Comfort push-pull train

CZECH REPUBLIC: Plans to raise the maximum speed on principal lines from 160 km/h to 200 km/h have been put on hold by infrastructure manager SŽDC, which now believes the benefits would not justify the cost of eliminating all level crossings and upgrading signalling systems.

The plan was first put forward in 2009, with the 39 km Blazejovice – Nezamyslice section of the Brno-Perov route included in the Ministry of Transport’s programme for completion by 2015 at a cost of KC24m.

Raising speeds above 160 km/h is now planned for 2030-50. This is dependent on a decision on whether to go ahead with the proposed construction of new high speed lines, which is expected in 2017

Due to the fact that they're contemplating doing completely new-build rather than just upgrading

German states plan more services to Czech Republic
Wednesday, June 11, 2014

PUBLIC transport authorities in the German states of Saxony, Thuringia, and Bavaria have revealed plans to step-up cross-border regional services into the Czech Republic.

At a recent meeting in Saxony the authorities agreed to fund an additional 31,000 train-km per year on the Hof – Pausa, Zeulenroda – Gera, and Gera – Greiz – Plauen – Cheb (CZ) routes. The additional services will be operated under existing contracts with regional operator Erfurt Railway (EB) and agreements between the transport authorities involved.

The changes will lead to a new timetable concept in December, with reduced journey times and improved connections at Gera.

In June 2015 a new station will open at Plauen Mitte and up to six additional services per day will operate on the Greiz – Wischlitz route

Praha control centre under construction
12 Jun 2014

CZECH REPUBLIC: Infrastructure manager SŽDC has begun work on a control centre at Praha-Balabenka which will house 130 dispatchers controlling train operations across 2140 km of main line in the west of the country.

The five-storey building is being built by Metrostav at a cost of KC383m with commissioning planned for November 2015. Local control will be retained on secondary lines.

Operations in the east of the country will be managed from a centre at Prerov which was commissioned in April 2011

Brno region rail development agreed
16 Jul 2014

Brno hlavni

CZECH REPUBLIC: A memorandum setting out plans to increase access to rail transport in the Jihomoravský region and provide more options for commuting into Brno has been signed by the Ministry of Transport, infrastructure manager SŽDC, the regional authority, three municipalities and regional transport authority Kordis JMK.

This paves the way for rehabilitation and electrification of the 3 km Hrušovany u Brna – Židlochovice line which was closed in 1979, modernisation and electrification of the 8·9 km Šakvice – Hustopeče branch, and construction of a 2 km electrified alignment between Lhota Rapotina and Boskovice.

Completion of the rail investment programme is envisaged by 2022.
