Cross-border railway study commissioned
21 Apr 2015

CZECH REPUBLIC: Infrastructure manager SŽDC has appointed a joint venture of Mott MacDonald and Sudop Praha to undertake studies for a proposed cross-border line connecting Litoměřice and Ústí nad Labem with Dresden in Germany.

GWTR wins south Bohemia regional contract
22 Apr 2015

CZECH REPUBLIC: The Jihočeský region has selected the GW Train Regio subsidiary of bus company ČSAD Jihotrans for a 15-year contract to operate regional passenger services on three lines totalling 229 km in the Šumava mountains from December 2016.
  • Line 194 České Budějovice – Černý Kříž;
  • Line 197 Číčenice – Nové Údolí;
  • Line 198 Strakonice – Volary
The KC2·25bn contract covers 1·3 million train-km/year. Price was the principal criterion for the award, with GWTR’s bid of KC88/train-km undercutting offers from Arriva (KC89·9) and national operator ČD (KC100 to 110, reduced from an initial 160). RegioJet and National Express chose not to bid

He said the Czech Republic is interested in building a high-speed Prague-Berlin line.

"I asked the Chancellor for intensive cooperation in the mutual development of rail connection. The Czech Republic is very strongly interested in upgrading the rail link between Prague and Berlin. We believe that high-speed trains could be serving it in the future. We would also like very much to modernise the rail connection between Prague and Munich," Sobotka said.

This would be so great, but I just don't see Germany committing themselves to such project in the near future.

In February I rode the RegioJet between Poprad-Tatry and Praha hl.n. in Business.
The complete report can be seen in the video (I have cross-posted it in the Eurostar and Inter-country Railways forum, already).

Skoda 109E Emil Zatopek finally approved by EBA.

Skoda Transportation's 109E locomotives have been granted an unrestricted approval for revenue service in Germany. The 109E is now officially homlogated for the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Poland. The 109E also complies with TSI High Speed RST.

Railcolor: Skoda's press statement gives us some nice details about the approval process, which was challenging according to Skoda's CEO, Tom Ignačák. The authorization process, as done by the Eisenbahn Budnesamt from Germany is described as complete and uncompromising. EBA's technical assessment goes down to the smallest detail.

Skoda states it has invested approximately 36 million euro (950 million CZK) in the development and homologation of its 109E multi system high speed locomotive platform. At this moment twenty units have been built for the Czech railways (CD). ZSSK from Slovakia owns two machines. Soon, the German railways (DB Regio in this case) will get six machines for its Nürnberg-Ingolstadt-München (NIM) high speed express. The importance of the German homologation is therefore evident.

On June 7 CD 380.002 replaced a 1216 for the first time. Too bad we won't see 380s pushing RJ anyday soon

Here is a list: http://spz.logout.cz/zabezpec/mech/mech.html

The 3 digits number on the left is a line, the second column shows particular stations where semaphores are located. The red ones are "endangered".
