Late in the evening the driver just wanted to get home as soon as possible . Seriously either the technical fault or indeed, failure of the driver. Btw. Lucky the guy from the fresh food stall there

A Pendolino had an accident this morning on the Praha-Ostrava corridor near Studénka*. A Polish trucker ran a red light on a level crossing and after the gates closed the genius decided to leave his 40t lorry on the rails. Two people died and thirteen are injured. The engineer is said to have lost both of his legs...

The truck was transporting steel plates and the truck body sliced through the train as a knife while the truck cabin stayed on the spot. The train luckily did not derail but instead dragged the truck several hundred meters. Some 170 people were on the train. More than 20 are injured.

The accident happened before 8 a.m. the train was travelling from Ostrava to Prague. At the same time, the Czech prime minister and most of the government were taking another Pendolino train going from Prague to Ostrava on a government meeting in Ostrava.

There's been an opinion that a next time the government takes the train all the ministers should not travel in the same train for safety reasons.

Since the whole accident is on camera it seems to be clear what happened. If the truck ran through the gates, the systems would stop all the traffic automatically, but because it was left on the rails, nothing happened.

This begs the question whether it would not be sensible to install video analysing software that would detect obstacle on the crossing and stop the traffic automatically, or at least brought it to attention of some traffic operator.

Since the engineer is said to live, it has to be so.

Škoda Transportation bought the Finish company TransTech.
http://byznys.ihned.cz/c1-64416370-p...tnava-500-lidi

Quote:
On 4 August 2015, the Finnish shareholders of Transtech Ltd and Škoda Transportation Group closed the contract on the sales of the majority shareholding in Transtech Ltd to Škoda Transportation Group from the Czech Republic. The transaction ensures the financial, R&D and internationalisation resources needed for the growth of Transtech Ltd. The Finnish company Sinituote Oy continues to be an important minority shareholder in the company, as required by Škoda. Transtech’s company name will remain unchanged. “Škoda Transportation has been extremely successful over the last couple of years, particularly in export markets. Our main long-term plan is to strengthen the company’s position in Western Europe in particular. The acquisition of the Finnish company Transtech is one of the steps that will take us towards our goal,” says Tomáš Krsek, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Transportation.

There's been a derailment in Horažďovice on the Brno - Plzeň line. The last carriage derailed probably on a to early changed switch and collided with a loco standing or moving slowly on the next track. Some 30 injured are reported.

It looks like the accident occurred at a 4 gated crossing , I thought both gates dropped at the same time?

Prague airport rail link plan finalised
Thursday, August 06, 2015

FOLLOWING a study by Czech rail infrastructure manager SŽDC, the Czech Ministry of Transport has selected a preferred option for a rail link between Prague city centre, Vaclav Havel International Airport, and the town of Kladno to the northwest of the capital

The project will involve upgrading and electrifying the existing line from Prague Bubny to Hostivice and Kladno, with the construction of a double-track branch serving the airport, which will diverge from the existing line near Ruzyně station. This will enable the operation of up to six trains per hour at peak times between Masarykovo station in the city centre and Vaclav Havel with a journey time of 27 minutes
