From International Railway Journal, 20th February 2013

PKP Cargo to acquire ZSSK Cargo?

POLISH State Railways (PKP) subsidiary PKP Cargo has become the latest potential buyer to be linked with ZSSK Cargo as the Slovak government continues its search for a strategic partner for the ailing Slovakian state-owned railfreight operator.

Last month the prime ministers of the Czech Republic and Slovakia said the two countries were considering a merger between CD Cargo and ZSSK Cargo. However, CD Cargo is grappling with financial problems of its own, having made a loss of around €9m last year.

With doubts growing over the merger, PKP Cargo has started talks with ZSSK Cargo. PKP Cargo currently competes with ZSSK Cargo, operating freight trains through Slovakia into Hungary and it also holds a license in Austria. Cooperation would ease the situation between the two.

Furthermore, there is a real risk that ZSSK Cargo might lose significant coal and ore traffic in eastern Slovakia. US Steel's Kosice steelworks is currently for sale and if Russian or Ukrainian investors take over, as is widely anticipated, steel production is likely to move further east.

ZSSK Cargo has accumulated debts of €600m and the workforce is to be cut by 600 this year.

It's good to see CD improving its brand image and using new rolling stock. I heard they've become quite profitable as of late?

Can anyone translate, if this is the final, official design?

IMO this design would look much better than the one floating around in the internet before:

I'm not a massive fan of the livery. I think it would have worked better with the colours reversed.

Due to the flood situation in the Czech Republic, the long-distance trains on the Dresden-Prague-Berlin have to be rerouted in the network of Czech Railways. There will be delays.

Does someone know about the the new route of the Berlin-Prague trains due to the flooding ?

Locomotive 109E received homologation according to TSI
New locomotive 109E from Czech manufacturer Škoda Transportation got as a second in the world a certificate of conformity with the technical specifications for interoperability of the European high-speed rail system for the subsystem of rail vehicles (TSI High Speed RST). The certificate is a key document required to obtain a permit to operate in six European countries.
Locomotive 109E is the latest, three-system, high-speed machine for commercial traffic with speed up to 200 km per hour.
Certificate of TSI High Speed RST is required for type approval of locomotives for each of European states. "The locomotive has successfully completed a test access in the Czech Republic, Austria and Poland. In Germany, the Slovak Republic and Hungary are either final or the last type of tests, " says Bernard.
The new three-system locomotive can operate on the railway corridors of all neighbor countries of the Czech Republic and in Hungary. In these countries locomotive can smoothly pass over areas with different power systems. The machine handles with the specific conditions of track and power systems with AC voltage of 25 Hz kV/50, or 15 kV/16, 7 Hz and also possibly with a DC voltage of 3 kV.

This is related news, however I don't know any details about it yet:
Quote:
Skoda locomotives for DB Regio high speed services
DB Regio Oberbayern is the winner of the public transport concession 'Ringzug West/NBS', awarded by the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG). This concerns the München – Ingolstadt - (NBS) – Nürnberg, Augsburg – Treuchtlingen – Nürnberg and the Treuchtlingen – Ingolstadt – München branches.

Most interesting is the rolling stock that has been selected by DB Regio for their transport concept. Bombardier Twindexx Vario double stock coaches on the conventional lines. For the services that run over the NBS line ('Neubaustrecke' München – Ingolstadt – Nürnberg) Skoda 109E series and Skoda double deck coaches will be ordered.

Railcolor: For sure, it is not a coincidence that the Skoda 109E series locomotive was awarded with the certificate of conformity with TSI High Speed, very recently.
http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?n...9&action=dview

Seems like we will see 109e in DB livery soon

- Erich dostoł! - i do dziś nie wiesz, czy to krzyczał grenszuc, czy powstaniec.
