1. Yes, - this from the Journal of March 2011: The plan for Tynemouth Metro Station, which was originally rejected by North Tyneside Council, includes a single-storey supermarket measuring 1,400 square metres. Developers Station Developments Ltd won an appeal against that decision and now the council has decided not to challenge the verdict of a Government planning inspector. Read More http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-e...#ixzz1VrROsK7Y 2. Rumoured on this thread earlier to be Waitrose. 3. I suspect that the refurbishment will be finished or very close to before there is any work on the Supermarket. |

![]() Waitrose attracts a more affluent, upmarket, older customer base than its rivals and is not the cheapest of supermarkets. Independent pricing survey The Grocer 100 shows that an average basket of 100 items costs £192.14 in Waitrose, compared with £174.23 at Morrisons. Wandering around Tynemouth enjoying the unseasonal good weather today, noticed that....
The long-closed (for good reason) Bar Oz off Front Street has reopened as 'Lola Jeans', and is a hell of an improvement, from the outside at least. In an unusually forward-thinking manner, NTC has waited for summer to end before beginning construction on the surfer facilities (showers etc) in front of Crusoe's on Long Sands. And right on cue we get an indian summer and a bunch of confused tourists trying to traverse the building site blocking the beach......still, looks impressive on the plans! |

Its already a canny enough place to go for an evening pub meal. More steak houses can never be a bad think Steve.

![]() Doesn't seem to be five minutes since its last revamp - but perhaps that's just a sign of old age. |

Proposed Earsdon Development
This piece appeared in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle on 25th November 2011, courtesy and this scan courtesy of NCJMedia.
The proposed development is on the land to the East of Wellfield on the farmers field that used to be a Sunday car boot sale.

Are more homes really needed in that area? There are already loads of new homes being built on the A186/Shiremoor/fringes of Earsdon.
Plus I quite like that boot fair as well! |

Look at all of the space up beside The Pavillion (Sir John Fitzgerald Pub) at Northumberland Park - whole suave of land there just waiting for development.

That is also set to be developed. On another thread there's an article about a local tree hugger who thinks no land on his doorstep should be developed.

Anybody see the Tynemouth Christmas Festival today? Geeze, what an embarrassment. About a half dozen table tops with random crap for sale, several sausages burning on a bbq, and a docile reindeer behind a steel mesh

by Sonia Sharma, Evening Chronicle, December 20th 2011 ![]() WORK has started on a multi-million pound community hub that will help attract more people to Whitley Bay town centre. The new Whitley Bay Joint Service Centre, on York Road, will bring together council and health services under one roof and will include a new library over two floors, a tourist information zone, café area, as well as community and meeting rooms. Residents can pay rent or council tax and get information on local authority matters at a customer services suite. An adult social care team will operate from the site. In addition, there will be a health suite with treatment and counselling rooms, a reception, waiting area and office space. Services will be provided by the North of Tyne Primary Care Trust. There will be a base for Age UK, space for Jobcentre Plus and a dedicated section for Whitley Bay police officers. North Tyneside Mayor Linda Arkley said: “I am delighted this project is under way. I know how important this is for residents and local businesses. By bringing services together under one roof it will help encourage more people into the town centre and that can only be good news for everyone.” Read More - http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north...#ixzz1h5IdwlJP |

I noticed that yesterday but I never got round to posting about it. I knew it was full of different amenities but I didn't think it would have so much in one building, I.E. job centre. I think it's great that so many of these amenities will be located more centrally in Whitley Bay, yeah you could argue that it's not on one of the main streets but it is easily accessible.
I work literally around the corner from the site and most days I walk past it so as the structure starts to go up I'll see about keeping an update with pictures. |

Did hear that one of the plans associated with the Service Centre was that York Road is to be made one way - that is the road that runs in front of the proposed building for those who don't know it. |

Cullercoats Toilets
Cullercoats story in this week’s New Guardia (12th January 2012) caught my eye.
Evidently local residents are fearful that the public toilets, based underneath Victoria Crescent and facing Cullercoats Bay may be sold to private developers. These are the toilets that are built under the road. The toilets are well used by the public in the summer months as well as a loo but also as a changing facility. Of course the article doesn’t mention what any potential private development would be but can you imagine if it was converted into living accommodation – what a view! |
