Around Tarbes and Lourdes : a tour in the French Pyrenees
image hosted on flickr ![]() Tarbes is not a fantastic city in itself but the setting is not bad. Let's begin with Ibos (a Basco-Aquitanian toponym in -oz) in the vast plain between Béarn in the West and Tarbes (the first pic was taken in spring) : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() The first towers of Tarbes in the distance : image hosted on flickr ![]() The Pyrenees are in front of us : image hosted on flickr ![]() The airport : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Full scale In spring : image hosted on flickr ![]() Louey (probably from Basque lohi > *loy > louey) : Jacques Duclos was born in that village. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Hibarette : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() In Bénac, the road was interrupted : I have to go through Visker (from Basque bizkar=clod) image hosted on flickr ![]() Ascending the coast in order to reach Visker : the Echez valley in the distance image hosted on flickr ![]() Visker : image hosted on flickr ![]() From Visker, the whole town of Tarbes can be seen : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Full scale Villages in the plain : image hosted on flickr ![]() Going South : the Peak of Midi is everywhere. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Loucrup : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Towards Astugue (from Basque aztuaga) : the Montagut looks upon us. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() On my right are the pre-Pyrenees and the Echez valley : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() On my left is the farm "Matarra" : image hosted on flickr ![]() In the distance is Lourdes : Lahitte-ez-Angles image hosted on flickr ![]() Ossun-ez-Angles (probably from Basque *orzun) : image hosted on flickr ![]() The truth is that I'm terrified when driving in the mountains : I'm trying to secure my way towards the valley. image hosted on flickr ![]() Eventually, I reach the plain with Pouzac in the outskirts of Bagnères : image hosted on flickr ![]() Antist : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Full scale Incidentally, while going North, I find myself on the hills that overhang the right bank of the Adour river : image hosted on flickr ![]() Full scale Mérilheu in the distance : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Bernac-Dessus : image hosted on flickr ![]() Tarbes one more time : image hosted on flickr ![]() Barbazan-Dessus : image hosted on flickr ![]() The Pyrenees grow more distant around the villages of Luc and Hitte : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Full scale |
