Though the project has moved on now, I was there late August when they were putting up the first Liebherr Crane. Here are some pictures of that moment. This was the view coming out of the Ameritania Hotel on West 54th Street.

Because NY is supposed to be taking a step forward, not back into the boxy 60's.

I'm ******* tired of shiny-glassy-twisted-skyscrapers like dubai. A building can have a simple design, you know?
Good addition for NYC.

I agree Zack, this is a very simplistic, elegant, and classic design I think.

Plus, if you don't like it, a building of this height won't have a dramatic impact on the skyline. I don't see anything wrong with it, but to each his own I guess.

I'm not a fan of the bland box either but it's the economics of building in a city as expensive as New York. Developers have to max out their income from the buildable envelope so you get the box. Any developer building twisty shapes or 'shards' in NYC would either be charging stupendous rents or go broke. It sucks but that's the hand they're dealt. That said, there's ample evidence in NY that you can do a lot more with the basic box envelope than four curtainwalls and a lobby.

Awesome update by Peteynyc1 on WNY, you can see this building obviously on the left, and you can see the crane for One57 on the right, AND you can see a sliver of the crane being used for 1715 Broadway in the middle.

This thing is flying upwards!!

Not like is a 1000ft eyesore that might ruin the skyline.

I always prefer a simple box, than a wierd shaped, overdone taky building.
If you call art deco, gothic or art noveau "overdone" then you have a serious problem with your architectural taste.

This area is going to be insanely dense. Especially considering that those 3 buildings are going up right now [in the photo]

You have a serious problem understanding what I write.

From what exactly did you get "art deco" ?

wierd shaped, overdone taky building

For ex. If all those 4 buildings would be just simple boxes, not wierd shaped, overdone and taky would look much better that now.

p.s.
Just for your knowledge, Wollworth Building and Manhattan Municipal Building ar my favorites from NY.

No one said this was on hold, there just haven't any photo updates in a while.

I was by the site about a week and a half ago and work on the fifth floor was well underway. The pace of construction on this thing is pretty impressive.
