Great pics posted here.
I think alot of people in cities vacation to rural/nature settings, like cabins by a lake, national parks, etc to do things that you cannot do in cities, like whitewater rafting, hiking, etc. I would only leave Van in the winter for a dry sunny clime. Currently I vacation to Vancouver. ![]() I have noticed alot of Vancouverites love to go to Hawaii. |

I'll go to Hawaii again this Christmas. I love Hawaii which is a better summer paradise than Vancouver imo. But I don't think I can live there all year round cause I would miss the cold and snow in Canada. ![]() Van boy, I also wondered about the color when I saw them but the girls told me that that's the way they were. |

Hawaii is the closest "tropical paradise" setting when flying out of YVR where you can feel relatively safe from crime, versus Mexico where you "takes your chances", LOL.

There are awsome landscapes, great weather and quaint villages. Many hard working and nice people, but one has to be constantly wary of crooked cops wanting a bribe, crooked taxi drivers, and worst of all, kidnappers that ask families for ransom. "Rich" looking foreigners and natives are at both at risk. Even middle class Mexicans usually employ bodyguards and frequent only certain malls or areas felt to be safe. God help you if you get involved in their legal system or get thrown in a Mexican jail. In many border cities, it is open warfare between the army and police against the drug dealers. The Canadian state department has issued numerous warnings to Canadians traveling there. Granted, the big resort areas, like Cancun, are fairly safe, but lesser traveled areas not. To me, it's just not worth the worry when there are so many other places to see. My take: you're smarter to go to Hawaii.

Thanks DrT! If I'm decided to go to Mexico, I would go to Cancun and I wouldn't leave the resort until the end of my vacation. But now, I,m also thinking going to Florida and since you live there, please give me some advice.Btw,Miami would likely be my destination. |

A trip to Miami would be great fun if you have a few bucks to spend.
For the most activity and "action", South Beach is it. Everything is on, or a block or two, from the water. Mostly hotels, restaurants and night clubs. Famed for its Art Deco architecture. The most central, and nicest, non-beach location, is on Brickell Av., a few blocks south of the CBD. That is central to most places you'd want to go. Brickell area is business, hotel and residential, a bit like Vancity. Downtown along Biscayne Blvd. also pretty nice. From the Brickell area it is easy to get to SoBe (South Beach), Key Biscayne, and the only inland area I'd recommend visiting, Coral Gables/Coconut Grove. They have a small elevated tram type transport downtown, but you can't get to South Beach, or much of anywhere else, so you will definitely need to rent a car. Without a car, you would be best to stay put in So Be. With a car, stay in these areas, as wandering around the 'hoods inland not a good idea. "Calle ocho" (SW 8th Street), between Brickell area and the downtown, is the heart of "Little Havana", the formerly mostly Cuban area. The Four Seasons Miami on Brickell is the tallest and probably the nicest hotel to stay in Miami. The lobby is spectacular.

I have many fond memories of going down to Steveston to buy shrimp from the boats!
![]() I'm very happy to see it hasn't turned into a ghastly built up suburban "downtown".

Vancouver is far from frying pan either! How often we would have a freaking summer like this year?
Hawaii is hot all year round and its temp is between 35 to 40c, but you don't really feel that hot because of the breeze from the ocean. |

Yes, its amazing how a small island has such a large variation of weather pattern. On one side of the mountain, it is the tropical forest but on the other side its like a desert climate. Quote:
) the volcano is too high to climb.
