Hopefully we will reach 150 000, 200 000 and 225 000 in one go in a couple of years. I sincerely hope there will be a merging of Stavanger, Sandnes, Sola, Randaberg, Rennesøy and maybe Gjesdal.

Great example how NOT to do it. The architecture and materials looks nice, but it seems like they managed to buried the first floor

Isn't all of stavangers landarea used up now? If so, it's important to extend it's land area by merging with at least Sandnes and perhaps some other areas as well (Im not really good at geography in the stavanger-region) to secure further growth of the city.

If they didn't merge, however, wouldn't that force stavanger to start tearing down suburban areas in order to make space for more dense and urban development? that would have been even better!!

Starting to get worried for your number 2 city status?
No, there are still some area left I guess. But a process to remove and replace old suburban buildings would just be naturall.

Haha not at all we are still the most popular destination for Norwegians to move to within Norway.. And with an immigrant share of only 10% we can still take in many more (this is one thing ive been wondering about.. will there ever be a time when the share of immigrants in Oslo becomes so high theyll stop taking more in, or will they continue till there are no ethnic Norwegians left?)

And by the time you've merged with Sandnes and what not we will have merged with Askøy, Os, Fjell and maybe even Øygarden and Sund!

Remember, we have a metro area too that will pass the 400 000 mark in a few more years!

Well, on the page for Bergen it says 2,755km2.. I don't know which is the right one.

According to your article 45% of this area consists of mountains so maybe my number includes only liveable area?

EDIT: check the english version of the article you linked me to..
