Frisian Architecture

Mysterious Frisian style architectures are found all over England, Scotland, Norway, Germany, Belgium, France, and obviously in Denmark and The Netherlands.

I don't think there is a specific Frisian type of architecture. It is very similar to the old Holland architecture. Perhaps there are some typical elements in Frisian buildings. I will try to explain some

Like this "ulebord" on the roof of a farm, with two mute swans:

Also this type of farm (kop-hals-romp) is typical for this area:

Old house with two smokestacks on both sides of the roof. This is very typical for important buildings, like city halls:

An old thin churchtower with a so called "zadeldak". this is the most common rooftop for towers:

Not an architectural element, but also very typical is the artificial dwelling hill (terp). These hills are found all over the Dutch, German and Danish coastal areas, but the Frysian are the highest. The most important buildings of the villages were, of course, on top of the hills.

That's because old culture Holland basically is the same as Frisian Ramses. Dorestad, Utrecht, etc, were once on Frisian soil

I´m Frisian, but I don´t think Frisian architecture is ´very´ special. It is nice.

^That's because you actualy live in Fryslân, for you it is everyday stuf. But for an outsider who is interested in history, archeology and architecture Fryslân could be a very fascinating place. I think the everyday architecture is far more interesting than the few modern exceptions.

Are there any more examples of Frysian elements in architecture?
