Thank you for all the information and the beautiful pictures.

Cape Cañaveral was Sacred Land when I was a child...Yes, I (as many in those years) wanted to be an astronaut.

Thank You for posting. Brilliant pics.
I noticed in some of the photos, that there seems to be quite an elaborate Rail System there. Does anybody have info or pics?
I would understand that for Security reasons, there may not be any pics etc.
I seem to remember that way back, they used Rail and Locomotives to move the Launch Pad out. It would be great to find some pics of that also.

I'm so disappointed President Obama is cancelling Ares. We just wasted billions of dollars on these new launch pads and rocket designs. I'm glad to see the private sector (SpaceX, Orbital) expand. But 2004-2010 were more wasted years for our space program. What a shame.

Work still continues, and will continue till the end of the FY2010. Studies are on going on how or if to use the Tower for any new program

Such a shame!
There is always a way to cut money involving scientific programs.
Governments suck.

Hopefully they'll find a way to use this infrastructure, but NASA still have to find more money to adapt it for other purposes.

I am not great with Crane names, but the massive one has been taken apart to leave, this is a shot taken from the VAB( itself 160.30 m of about 40 stories tall ,although it is a one storied building):

The launch mount also arrived, after outfitting it will be placed on the platform deck:
