Hope, TN government realise the potential of coastal districts right from Cuddollore to Thutocorin and making of another Gujarat in South...

I guess Cuddalore will see more installments than Tuticorin. Even if you count only Phase I of IL&FS project and other projects, it comes to 7,320 MW. With Phase II of IL&FS, it surges to 13,320 MW. This is juzz about known projects so far.

Second is Tuticorin with 8,000 MW and closely follows the third district, Nagapattinam with 6480 MW.

Also, that Ind-Bharath Project belongs to Tuticorin and not Cuddalore?

Tamil nadu 2nd in total power consuption

Next only to Maharastra.
I presume Industrially active states consume more power, but some surprises
why Kerala is low because less industrial activity, how about punjab I am sure they have decent amount of small scale industries but still more than Haryana.

Anyhow it is good to see India is growing and thanks Leo for posting this as I am a stat guy I enjoy this kind of info.

That must be 850 MW. I guess its a typo. 2050 crores will in no way be enough to build infrastructure for producing 8000MW. Even the 2000 MW plants require investments in the range of 10,000 crores.

It is 1500 MW (3x500). At Ennore TNEB is also constructing its own 1200 MW (2x600) plant. All the five plants are from BHEL.

This should bring more Power plant equipment suppliers to TN in all the field.

Already we have Suzlon, Vestas foot print in Tamilnadu. BHEL/GEA supplies coal based power plant equipments. I remember some Dubai power equipment based company signed MOU for setting up their Manufacturing facility in Chennai.

Thats the total power generation capacity of all the projects proposed/under construction in TN. It doesnt mean that they are all for only TN. It is for all southern states at large.

Thumbs up Kalpakkam to sizzle with 2 more FBRs

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/chenn...-more-fbrs-051

Jan 26: Work on two more Fast Breeder Reactors, each of 500 Mwe, would begin here soon, according to Dr Baldev Raj, director, Indira Gandhi Centre For Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam.
“These reactors are in addition to the FBR of 500 MWe that is fast coming up at Kalpakkam. While the first reactor would be commissioned in 2011, we hope to commission the other two reactors by 2020,” said Dr Baldev Raj. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the valedictory function for a batch of students from Kancheepuram district who successfully completed the vocational training course in non-destructive testing held by IGCAR.
Once the three FBRs become fully operational, Kalpakkam will pump 1,500 MWe power into the national grid. This is in addition to the 440 MWe generated by the two reactors at the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS). Dr Raj, who was recently elected to the elite International Nuclear Energy Academy, said that the civil works of the FBR were almost over. “The sensitive inner vessel housing the critical components of the reactor will be lowered into the vault by March 2010,” he said.

Thumbs up Work begins on Tuticorin power project

http://www.hindu.com/2010/01/28/stor...2853470500.htm

NEYVELI: The work on the coal-based Tuticorin power plant has begun and it will be commissioned during 2012-2013, according to A.R.Ansari, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

He was delivering a speech at the Republic Day function held here on Tuesday.

Windmills
The Chairman said that the NLC had identified Cumbum and Sengottai for setting up windmills with initial power generation capacity of 50 MW and with a provision to scaling it up to 200 MW in course of time.

About other new projects undertaken by the NLC, Mr. Ansari said lignite production at Barsingsar in Rajasthan had commenced and a 125-MW power unit had been synchronised. It was the first NLC project to be synchronised outside Neyveli, he said.

Other projects
Other projects under formulation were the Bithnok mine-cum-power project, new power project in Neyveli and the Barsingsar expansion project.

As part of the corporate social responsibilities, the NLC had contributed generously to the peripheral development scheme, renovation of school buildings, provision of furniture and construction of roads.

Mr. Ansari said that the home journal “Lignite Eyes” and the newsletter “Lignite Lifeline” would help the employees to get the right perspective about the company and the guidelines of the vigilance department.

The NLC had won the prestigious “Shramik Shiksha Award,” instituted by the Centre, for having imparted training among the highest number of employees and the “Best establishment in the region award” for having imparted quality apprenticeship training.

In sports too the employees had done well by winning 13 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals in the State athletic meet held at Tiruchi.
