Yeah, good point about the service at Zizzi actually. We have had some absolute mares there. If it's even slightly busy, they just can't cope. Food's still nice though

I dont mind leisurely service (ie. 20-25mins for your main), one thing that makes eating less fun out here in Van is the fact you get your food so fast. You order and within 10 mins you are eating. THen they bring the bill when clearing plates! So its very in an out, its because they rely on tips.

If they are having a problem with the lease, surely they could try somewhere else in the city centre, if they really are that interested in opening in Newcastle? Eldon Square South would seem like a good call to me, opposite the Gate.

My favourite restaurant in Newcastle is definitely Cafe Zonzo (not really a cafe, although you can just go there for brunch or a coffee), tucked away in a corner of Sandyford. Best Italian food in the city if you ask me and reasonably priced for the quality too. Great place to take a date/girlfriend/wife too!
http://www.caffez.co.uk/open.html Failing that, Pani's on High Bridge St is great for a really tasty, quick, cheap lunch - their lasagne is beautiful! |

Been to Panis twice, and both times was thoroughly dissapointed. Some people love the place, but it was crap both times I went. I have often sat across the way in Bacchus thinking how funny it would be if I could just rotate the 'a' in Panis 180 degrees....

Surely worth a try one night? I'd sure they'd love their new sign...

What - seriously? Where does it state this? Surely they must be struggling financially. What I don't get is why have one in Middlesbrough and not in Newcastle, doesn't make sense. They should have conqoured the 'big' cities first then the little towns. GRR @ Akbars and for this i'm boycotting your other restaurants. |

I emailed Akbar's several days ago to try and get clarification from the horse's gob, but not had a reply so far.
Work on the unit they were due to occupy did grind to a halt a few months ago, but I heard this was mainly due to a planning issue regarding the installation of mandatory ventilation for the site, which is mixed use commercial/residential. Newcastle is still mentioned as a future location on the Akbar's website, but all those impressive renders of the interior design we were teased with have been removed. |
