Riksantikvaren needs to back off in these sort of cases building modern tall buildings in this location is great imo, and as long as it's considerably lower than the hill he shold stfu, i really wish they would take up the fight since Erik Solheim said in the papers a few days ago he wished Oslo had more highrises, so maybe it Riksantikvaren would have been overturned.

Another Metro Oslo project facing protests is the skiing tunnel in Ås, now both the Vegvesenet and Fylkesmann has stopped the plans approved by the local council:
http://www.oblad.no/article/20090106/AAS/738312894

The new shoppingcentre rules are stopping this one, as i tought! ;D

The shopping center rule is increadibly stupid. IT is a demand that shopping centers are close to good public transport, but statitistics CLEARLY shows that people go with cars when they are shopping eitherway. The public transportation share in neighboring shopping senter Ski (which is situated by both a station and a bus-terminalk) is marginal, and could be explained by people dropping by while waiting for their train/bus alone.

I don't think the rule demands public transport, but to build new shops in town/city centres, so that these don't die out?

Vinterbro is not that hard to reach by PT, there's a local bus to Ski every hour that stops at the main entrance. Drøbak - Oslo express passes right by every 30 min aswell, i took the bus when i went there to work. Only some ashole planners had put the busstop in the middle of nowhere between Tusenfryd and Vinterbro without any apparant reason why, since there is plenty of room next to the shoppingcentre. So this Kollektivsatsing is just BS.

I'm glad the new rules killed the plans. Theese shopping malls kills every norwegian city, and makes the city center a ghost town. Also forcing everyone to use their cars every time the want to shop, no public places, no urban life, nothing but shops like Nille, Dressmann and Cubus, all big chains making every city as dead and boring as the next one. We kill our own culture with theese malls.

Shopping at the malls will in time kill every mid sized city. I hope the times are changing, with a continious growth in urban settelment i norwegian cities, but people have to start with them selves if they want to preserve their home town.

I agree, I can`t stand big shopping malls. They are designed for lazy people, or something.. But I would like the highrise and the ski tunnell though.

In other news, the aquariumproject is being moved from Bjørvika to Filipstad after being pushed out by the Munch/Stenersen project, read about it in todays Aften, they are still doing the same concept with a science centre, foodhall, and they revieled that to finance it they have planned a 50 000 km2 conference hotel, a tower with a large podium was shown in the article

http://www.osloaquapark.no/
Not updated tough, but the concept is the same;D

About the shopping mall-debate, as I welcome. There is clearly some faults in the law when two shopping malls only ten minutes from eachother, gets so different posibilities to develop. The only reason is that the county of Akershus has defined Ski as a PT-junction and Vinterbro not. This smells of weird politics, when both have great connections to both Oslo and neighboring tettsteder.
Btw though protecting local centras is one reason that the law on malls came, the environment part is the one that has been pushed the hardest. Link to the RPB-law
The other weird thing about this case, is that Vinterbro already knows about these protests, and thereby states that they wont build a "mall" in their expansion. They will have larger space-consuming store lines that eitherway is outside of the law against malls.
About malls in general, the medium sized town of Ski is a grose example of how a mall can completely destroy all streetlife in the downtown-area. Still, I wont go to the point that I completely condemn malls. Shopping-malls are an easy way of concentrated shopping, and if not situated right by a downtown-area like in beforementioned Ski, it can be a nice supplement/alternative to street-wise shopping. Vinterbro is a better place for a mall, the place didn't have stores before VS, and with ca. 3000 inh. they wouldn't for a many years either.
Then again, I will always be the suburban alibi of Norwegians here on the forum, since I've been living out here all my life. The most urban I have lived is when I lived in a row-house. This makes me a bit more open towards suburban stuff/values than the average forumer.

About the Filipstad high-rise shown in AA today, it looked misplaced, and would never get approved in the current masterplan.

PS to Ingenioren. In the Destination Vinterbro plan, the bus-stop is planned moved to right beside the mall, with a ped-bridge to both sides of the road.

TU about Bjørvika, page 50:

http://www.tu.no/multimedia/archive/...209_99023a.pdf
It appears that Bjørvika was planned to start construction already in 1990, and now they fear it will be delayed again....

Here is the winner "Bølgen" for Tingvallautstikkeren, by Alliance arkitekter and MAPT from Denmark - it's all wood and glass, and construction will start this fall, with 10 months construction time, the roof is likely to become Oslos most popular dining experience:
