The platform gap is scary, this should give them good enough reason to invest on platform edge doors. At the very least the trains wont move if no clear signal is given by the PED.

Not quite. Very few daily commuters from Batam to Singapore and vice versa. That's how an agglomeration is created and defined. And even for the very few that commute, the only form of transportation is by ferries.

It is possible that her hand was small enough that the door did not detect a partial closure. In such a case, there would be no warning signal and with the monorail as crowded as it is, the driver would not be able to see anyone who was stuck there. I mean, if an ankle of a guy on the Delhi Metro could get stuck and the train move off with him clinging to the outside till he reached the next station, a hand is not too far off...

RapidKL's press release

“Part of her hand was stuck on the sliding door as the train moved,” he said, adding that the automatic closing system for the door has a tolerance for obstruction of objects up to 3.5cm in engaging it locked-up status.

“The sensor will only detect any obstruction if it is more than 3.5cm. Anything less than that, the train will capture that the door is locked,” he said, adding that the tolerance limit was within the approved standard.

Agreed. Went there last year and you can tell like, well should not compare LRT but best to compare with our lousy Komuter. After coming back from there, I took the train from Mid Valley to KL Sentral and in contrast with Caulfield to Flinders and definitely ours sucks big time. Coincidently it was 4 minutes to arrive so I compared for the Komuter I waited for 40+ minutes for a train and reached there in 5 minutes for a single stop journey. Over there waited 9 minutes and 6 stations in 6 minutes. And of course that same month I found out their punctuality rate in Melbourne was the highest for the year. A bad example, should have emulate theirs or Sydney's. A real shame.

Very significant news.

CSR Zhuzhou is planning a RM 400 million train factory in Batu Gajah, Perak.

Perak to get RM400mil plant

IPOH: CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd (CSR ZELC), a subsidiary of China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corp Ltd, will invest RM400mil to set up its manufacturing plant in Batu Gajah near here.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the plant, to be built on a 20ha site near the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) Academy, is expected to be completed in two years.

He said CSR ZELC planned to develop the site as a hub for the locomotive-related industry in South-East Asia.

“The plant will produce locomotive and train coaches for the Asean and Middle East markets,” he told reporters after a briefing by CSR ZELC officials at his office yesterday.

Dr Zambry said apart from the transfer of technology to a local partner company, the project would also create jobs for locals.

The Chinese company had earlier secured a RM1.89bil contract from the Transport Ministry to supply 38 sets of six-car trains to national railway company, KTMB.

The purchase was part of a government project under the National Key Results Area programme to improve public transportation in the Klang Valley.

Haha, did I mentioned that the MRT in Singapore sometimes there will be people standing near the gap and the "Doors are closing" jingle was played twice. Bet they know that it is too near to the door or on the gap. Back in KL, 3 words WHAT A JOKE. And also a sympathy to that poor lady.

I can tell you, doors do close on people. It just happens that they play the announcement twice instead of once before closing. This often happens at interchange stations where sometimes a connecting train arrives and they try to hurry people getting on the train. You just need to face it, these things happen at times. Passengers needs to know when the trains are too full to board too. This is why I avoid the monorail. It has insufficient capacity and the crowds aren't going anywhere soon.

Did u also notice how simple down to bare basics the train stations were!It just proves a point that commuters priorities is simply the trains run on time and there is ample parking

Anything that came out from Mentri Besar's and Chief Minister's (even LGE) MOUTH, I do not believe even 1%. Plus the election is expected to be called out anytime soon, just another 'good news' for the Perakian. In the end, it will just be another workshop to assemble trains for project here, not for export.

Actually the word "Asean" was also iterated by CSR Zhuzhou themselves when they won contract to supply new trains for Ampang line.

http://www.csrgc.com.cn/ens/xwzx/2012-04-11/6154.shtml

Quote:
Malaysia’s choosing CSR Zhuzhou again after the intercity EMU project in Kuala Lumpur shows we are trustworthy, said Xu Zongxiang, executive director and general manager of CSR Zhuzhou, adding “Ampang Line” light rail project will further promote the establishment of CSR-ASEAN Rail Vehicle Manufacturing Center on the basis of the intercity EMU project, and CSR Zhuzhou will take the opportunity to quicken its pace of globalization, expand overseas operations and provide more product choices to the international market.
Regardless of that, for now, I think we should have local content requirement for new trains, just like in Australia and USA.
