That is some backtrack. It looks like Hilton have pulled out. Hardly a surprise.

Knowing Manor it'll go from being a Hilton to a Bilton (B&B).

Have manor kept a promise!

Winds of change as Lost Trawlermen's Day service moves home

Quote:
WITH winds buffeting their faces, relatives of lost trawlermen cast flowers into the choppy waters.

The symbolic act has become the traditional way to end the annual Lost Trawlermen's Day service, which was attended by hundreds of people yesterday.

But this year, the flowers were tossed into the river from a different spot, as the service was held at St Andrew's Quay, next to the Sailmaker's Arms pub, for the first time.

In past years the service was held at the Bullnose, where families had waved off the trawlermen. But Charles Pinder, chairman of fishing heritage group Stand, which organises the service, said it was important to hold the service at the place trawlers left from.

The site has also been chosen by the public as the preferred location for a memorial to remember Hull's 6,000 lost trawlermen.

Mr Pinder said: "This is the place where the trawlers prepared to go to sea and where they would let go of the land. It is only natural for people to have concerns, but it is important to come to this place."

However, many ex-fishermen and families who lost relatives at sea said they would have preferred to mark the occasion at the Bullnose.

Their opinions were reinforced when strong winds made it impossible to throw flowers directly into the water at the end of the service. Instead, they landed on the concrete bank below.

Vic Smith, the son of an ex-fisherman, climbed over the barriers and on to the bank to toss the flowers into the water.

Mr Smith, who runs a burger van and provided attendees with free refreshments, said: "I could see the predicament and just did what needed to be done. The flowers should be in the river.

"At the Bullnose, you could just reach over a barrier and drop them into the water, which was so much easier."

When Kelvin Norrie, 27, of west Hull, lost his father, Edward, a former fishermen, in 2007, his family scattered his ashes into the water from the Bullnose.

Mr Norrie said: "I would have preferred the service to be at the Bullnose, but I suppose it's not safe there.

"It is nice here, but it is a shame that we can't get the flowers into the water."

Mr Pinder said: "It is a symbolic place to hold the service and it has been very successful.

"I have had many people approach me to say how much they have enjoyed it.

"I am also very pleased at the number of people who came to the service.

"There is no grave for the many fishermen who went off to do their ordinary job and who never came back, so it is important to hold this service."

Mr Pinder said he hopes a permanent memorial to the city's lost fishermen will be erected at the site in the next two years.

That they would clear the site and make it safe for people to pay respect in the right place.

The Sailmakers area of St Andrews Quay is not owned by Manor 'Hull'. Am i missing something here? I thought the area Manor owned was the area that is not being used for the service now?

Manor own the bullnose area. Nothing has been cleared there and the service couldn't happen there this year and was, therefore, moved to infront of the sailmakers.

Yet another 'press release' by manor.

Looks like they are stalling manor cube some more now saying they are waiting for funding. Even though they clearly stated before that manor cube would begin in spring time...

2 Quotes from the story tell all you need to know and the first will be the reason Hilton pulled out of the cube.

Quote:
The North Ferriby developer has applied for £3 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) to help transform the derelict city centre site in an eight-storey hotel. Manor Property Group would fund the rest of the project, which includes the demolition of existing buildings.

Quote:
As revealed in the Mail's The Business today, Manor Property Group has also applied for £8.5-million European funding to help towards the £28 million refurbishment of the Manor Point development of the former Co-op building next to BHS on the corner of Bond Street in the city centre.

A press release for the manor point scheme:

Quote:
£8.5M ERDF APPLICATION FOR YORKSHIRE CONTACT CENTRE CONCEPT
An application for £8.5 million European funding on behalf of Manor Property Group will help address the undersupply of larger floor plate modern office accommodation in the Yorkshire Region to meet growing demand for contact centre operations.
The ERDF (European Regional Development fund) application has been submitted to regional development agency Yorkshire Forward towards the £28 million project, with the balance of funding coming from the private sector; it will fund the conversion and refurbishment of part of a 5-storey vacant former department store into Grade A commercial floorspace, in order to bring the building back into beneficial use. It has already attracted end user interest from inward investors due to the scarcity of such space.
The application states: 'The Manor Point building is unique in Hull and rare regionally by offering individual floors of 2,000-4,600 square metres (gross internal) with a clear, uninterrupted space and in a city centre. Experience & enquiries demonstrate that large scale potential occupiers seek this type of location & accommodation & look for ready access to occupation.'
The refurbished section of the five storey building will provide retail or leisure space on the ground floor with office space above in excess of 13,000 sq m. The full development will accommodate up to 2,500 employees of which 1750 will be new jobs created in the region.
Bill Addy of Manor Property Group said: "Yorkshire Forward recognises the huge potential of this development to meet the growing UK demand for larger space accommodation with high quality services, which will help attract contact centre operations to the region, and especially Hull."
Development costs associated with Manor Point are acknowledged as a third of an equivalent new building project. The application concludes that 'The physical product delivered would be a major improvement for the city centre and ultimately a catalyst for development of adjacent sites.'
It seems they've heard of this funding and have decided to try and get what to them would be 'free money'

they'll have to build something to get a grant. if the ERDF people see manors history of not doign anything they'd be certainties to be offered some dough

also regarding the manor cube project, ive never seen so much fuss for a 8 story hotel! youd think they were building the worlds talest building.

anyway expect some more press releases in the coming weeks, regarding manor signing this national hotel operator. if they did sign up im sure to any commited developer it would basicly mean work can now commence.

That's exactly what they said when Marriott (?) signed up for Manor Mill and when Hilton signed up for Manor Cube.

Needless to say nothing happened.

For Manor Mill i cant see any further hurdle that has to be overcome given the only thing that was said to be holding it back was the casino liscence, and now all thats been sorted. I seem to remember about a year ago a demolition contract been awarded with the usual announcement from Manor saying that they were pleased that work could finally commence. Well then, lets see it!!

April is coming up fast, if manor were serious manor mill would of been demolished by now! There was no hurdle for that to commence it was only the fact that if the casino licence was not granted there would have to be a re-design

We will have to wait and see, if I owned a development company and told lots of press that it would start in April, and it didn't I'd would be pretty embarrassed
