New Chinese architecture in classic style
Didn't know there was such a thread, it's nice but I don't see why it is necessary to segregate Chinese historical revival architecture from the general historical revival architecture thread.

Most of the historical revival architecture in China nowadays however is extremely kitschy and can hardly be called traditional. Out of the urban examples or the ones that involve the state/major developers, the ones that are actually faithful to traditional styles and techniques are few and far between.

Here are some exceptions:

The Miao ethnic minority are among the last people in China to regularly construct new buildings with mostly traditional techniques. They have been quite successful at making their villages into tourist attractions and most of the buildings in these pictures are recently built hotels.

A hotel in Guilin built in the style of traditional mud-brick farmhouses. (The kind my grandfather was born in!) It's not cheap though, apparently it's $302 a night for a suite, $236 a night for a king bed, $245 for a room with 2 beds, $130 for a single.

A new luxury residential development in Suzhou inspired by the city's classical
garden architecture.

Maybe it doesn't quite measure up to Suzhou's classical gardens but it's getting there!

After the earthquake in Lushan, Sichuan in April of last year, some villagers are rebuilding their homes the traditional way after noticing that many old timber-framed buildings survived the quake while newer concrete/brick ones collapsed. Apparently the traditional wood frame buildings are more earthquake resistant as they are more flexible.

If you're going to interpret everything everyone says as a blanket statement, in this case me referring to pure traditional Chinese architecture as unfeasible right after somebody complains about modern new government buildings using only imported western styles instead, fair enough. Otherwise, you haven't refuted my claim... In fact, you're spinning the argument. A logical response would post examples of government buildings with neotraditional Chinese elements to contrast them with the western-style ones.

It's pertinent because this whole argument started concerning public buildings, specifically for government use. Therefore Wuhan University doesn't count, and if a school is the only "public" building of such a style in China, that's disturbing on its own right.
