Yes, basically you are right. I also think that most of new Russian neo-classic stuff (as well as Eastern-European as a whole and Asian) is very bad. I just meant that that particular Sochi example is not quite convincing in this regard, because it's not about it. There are better examples to prove this point of view, and in Sochi too.

If I'm not mistaken, the renovation and expansion of the Two Mosques has been happening, on and off, from 70's until now

What time frame exactly? Everything I posted is "new". They are huge additions to an obviously ancient mosque, but I didn't post any of the ancient parts of the structures.
