Hi Everyone,

I would like to bring attention to another educational offering with a discipline oriented in Classic Interior Design.

The New York School of Interior Design (Est. 1916) offers a Basic Interior Design Certificate which can be completed entirely online or in class in NYC. The curriculum is very classically oriented with a number of courses focused explicitly on the history of design. The school also has strong ties with the ICAA (Institute of Classical Art and Architecture). In addition, many new classical architects (Peter Pennoyer and RAMSA associates) frequent the school with lectures or serve as faculty members/advisers.

Furthermore, NYSID offers a BA program in the History of the Interior and Decorative Arts.

Link Here:

Lastly, the school was ranked #3 for 2015 of America's Top Interior Design Schools by the acclaimed design council, Design Intelligence.

I can't put my finger on it, but I really like that building. That's the creative interpretation of classical languages I'd love to see happening much more in contemporary buildings! Fading the lines between early modern, classical and hightech.

I like the contrast between the more faithfully executed traditional buildings and the lightly modernist reinterpretations. I think that the "sweet spot" around 20-40% modernism is my personal favorite:

(black-and-white color schemes seem common in New Traditional architecture)

(could almost pass for midcentury)

(Art Deco is around 40% modernist)

(around 30%; streamlined classicism, very common in New Urbanism in the US)

(I don't like the "Old Florida" Bahama shutters, which are inappropriate for German architecture, but the more traditional base and the modern roof blend nicely)

(around 10% modernist IMO; larger windows than traditional and the landscaping make this look more like an American revival than an actual Belgian farmhouse)

(ditto, but for the half-timber style. This could *almost* be an authentic 1600s-1700s English or German farmhouse).

(more 1920s-revivalism)

(probably more around 15-20% modernist, basically traditional but more streamlined and typical of 1920s-30s revivals)

(This is almost 100% modernist aside from the stone)

(about ~50-60% modernist.)

(0% modernist. Completely authentic)

(Wait...is that a patio and lots of windows I see?)

(I actually like this facade better.)

Not from this thread:

(About 70% modernist; as the URL implies, won awards from the Institute for Classical Architecture in NYC and a darn fine building IMO)

Not a masterpiece, but here's a West African interpretation of a Chinese interpretation of Western architecture:

Plaza Diamant, Conakry, Guinea.
