^ Aren't these faithful reconstructions and/or renovations of actual historical buildings?

I know of various actual new classical and postmodern buildings in Elblag/Elbing, but I don't think these are among them.

It is certainly bad, but at least to the mid-50s, on the spot the demolished buildings, were built the beautiful examples of Art Deco. Though of course there is no excuse for destruction of history (especially beautiful significant buildings).

Yes, I know it's not because of the war but because of the modernist movement. I am not against modernism, especially the Latin-american samples, which differs delicate taste. All the same, modernism, brutalism the Latin-american sample left some brilliant examples of the architecture of the global scale as: edifício Copan in Sao Paulo, edificio Sede del Banco Central de Venezuela in Caracas, edificio antiguo de la Contraloría bogota and many other examples, but the movement of modernism must not were to carry out at the expense of the destruction of the classical architecture of the cities in Latin America ... This can be compared with architectural genocide, mutilation of the historic centers of Latin American cities. In some cases, as the destruction of Avenida Rio Branco in Rio de Janeiro, probably the worst case in the world, in a city where there was no war.
But I hope that a new world trend (the revival of classical architecture), will be not only in the United States or Western Europe but will also be distributed in Eastern Europe which have suffered from wars and the communist regime and of course in the cities of Latin America where without wars, without any reason were erased countless examples of classical architecture, many of which could be the envy of even Europe.

Those mansard roofs are awkward and dark (both in the no-dormers sense and in the load of black shingles sense). The other DC/MD/VA ones are pretty nice interpretations of traditional architecture with more windows.

Providence, RI, USA - 2006

Warwick, RI, USA - ~2010

Riu hotels, Cape Verde:

Don't know if it's kitsch (it's more of a Mali/Burkina Faso style than anything Cape Verdean), but still pretty cool.

I never really understood the love for the mansard roof. Sure, it works in specific applications but some treat it like an essential feature. I think it is overused (and in many cases wrongly used) in modern traditional architecture.
