[QUOTE=KWT;125162485]Ismaili Center Dubai

Certainly an improvement over the brutalist little monster in the heart of beautiful South Kensington, London, but I suspect even the Dubai building was designed by architects with a shaky understanding of urbanism. Look at way the complex completely ignores the street orientation, like it was built in the middle of a wheat field. This is a hallmark of the modernists, which at its essence started off as an anti-urban ideology and still bears that imprint deeply.

This building is a total nonsense.
Even worse when you consider its location / neighbors...

That postmodern building reminds me of a cinema in Worcester, UK, where they made the facade look like a row of more different, and sometimes traditional buildings. Although this was a bit more successful, since they didn't appear to be jumbled up and stacked on top of each other... Don't mind this so much, since it helps it to blend in with a street of real old buildings...

The Moroccan buildings look pretty good.

They've actually got some character to them rather than just being weary apologetic exercises in a style. Why are architects operating over there doing so much better with traditional revival designs than neo-classicists in Europe and the US, I wonder?

Man I love that new German stuff! Classical and yet of our time. Wish we had something like that going on in U.S. I ditto the sentiment about Erbse. I miss his contributions to SSC.

There's quite a lot of buildings in that style going up in Germany at the moment. They're setting an example for the rest of Europe, much of which still dabbles with the architectural mess that is modernism.
