Ah, jeez. These are all impressive, but... If the owners want some proper baroque/neo-gothic/mediterranean or what-not style mansion/castle/residence/manor, they'd just need to come to Europe!

Many of the original ones are crumbling and looking for new passionate investors, especially in many parts of Eastern and Southern Europe. More style and originality for less money! Plus they'd save actual historical buildings.

They could start here right away: Buying an original castle/manor in the Heart of Europe

Why not buy the lovely manor complex of Varchentin? It retained a lot of its original mid 19th century Neo-Gothic appearance and charme, as well as many interior details. Comes along with a great English-style garden:

Or the 1735 baroque birth house of the UK Queen Charlotte, Mirow, right in the heart of the land of 1000 lakes?

Well, they'd be probably long bought by Americans, if they were in Southern France or Italy and not in dreary and grey East Germany.

QUILMES, Argentina

This house already existed, I don't know whether it's new or old. But as you can see in the photo, there was construction next door:

It turns out that the owners enlarged the house, keeping the style down to the smallest detail:

Ah well. These people are in Europe for summer almost exclusively (except ski resorts), so it doesn't matter anyway. It's sunny and mostly lovely in summer. In addition, the Northeast of Germany is the sunniest region of Central Europe. Ah well, then there's climate warming, too...

Add to that the fact that regions behind the former iron curtain are relatively unknown to Americans, except for a few hot spots like Berlin, Dresden, Prague or Budapest, that became popular with them just in recent years. This enthusiasm might also spread across such cities into the vast, calm landscapes of the Baltic Sea region or the culturally interesting mountain ranges of Central Europe. I wouldn't be so surprised if there will be much more POIs in the near future. I also see and hear a lot more Chinese and British tourists here, they could hardly be noticed some years ago.

Port Alaçatı, Izmir, Turkey

The design is based on the local architecture of Western Turkey. It blends in perfectly with the old town which is only a few minutes away from the project site. Also the town of Alaçatı is one of the major surfing destinations in Europe.

Stari Most (Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2004)

After the end of the war, plans were raised to reconstruct the bridge. UNESCO formed a coalition to oversee the reconstruction of the Stari Most and the historic city centre of Mostar. Funding was provided by Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Croatia and the bridge was re-built with local materials by Er-Bu Construction Corp a Turkish company, using Ottoman construction techniques. Reconstruction commenced on 7 June 2001. The reconstructed bridge was inaugurated on 23 July 2004.
