And one more from Moscow. A new hotel at Strastnoy boulevard, near Pushkinskaya square. I do like it.

Very interesting! Do you have more information when the wing was built?

This building is definitely a new building with classical influences however a bit over the top for my liking. Still, I suppose they're going for their own 'classical form' and the detailing is certainly there, including the towers which in part reference the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, albeit octogonal, which has been commonly used in classical revival buildings in the past, such as the lovely neoclassical All Saints Church in London, England, as well as the very Greek Merchants' Exchange Building in Philidelphia and is also used in bronze miniature as the prestigious Driehaus Architecture Prize for buildings built in the new classical style.

Have a look at the architects who have won the Driehaus Architecture Prize and you will see a who's who of the most accomplished new classical and traditional architects of the world, which includes Dr Demetri Porphyrios whose publications are a 'must read' for anyone interested in classical and traditional architecture of the very highest level. Porphyrios makes you understand that the architecture is not just 'pretty' revival but how relevant it is for contemporary times. He is responsible for the design of large-scale masterplan developments and traditional buildings at Princeton, Oxford and Cambridge Universities, Kings Cross London and many other places and is currently a visiting professor at the Yale School of Architecture, considered one of the most prestigious architecture schools in the world. He also is the principal architectural adviser to Prince Charles of the British royal family who himself is a fervent supporter of classical and traditional architecture.

How Funny! I tend to be good at spotting this stuff out, but assumed that was just historic when I was there last month.

That is some hideous post-modern garbage.

re: the Russian theatre building: Lovely building but unfortunate use of modern single-pane windows.

Well, tastes differ but I see nothing post-modern it it. And I'd even call it quite modest (maybe I judge by wrong standards).

LOVE the Berlin stuff! We have nothing so nice going on in the U.S. Once again Germans showing us how to do things right!

^ Go troll somewhere else.

Great collection there Tiaren, thanks for the summary!

Robertwood: I still see the US and UK ahead in terms of refined new classical architecture - for both more quality and more quantity, as well as established classical architecture education. Though Germany is finally starting to catch up.
