How expensive is building something in traditional architectural style vs building it in a more modern style? Not asking for exact costs as that depends on a lot of factors, but would building it in traditional style be, generally, a lot costlier?

Depends on the materials used. A knock off plaster cast is gonna be cheaper than a glass facade but a hardcut real limestone is going to triple your costs for the same facade compared to glass. Also classical ornamantation takes a lot of talent and hardwork so labor is very costly too.

Overall, yes a real limestone building is almost always gonna be way more expensive than fabricated glass covered iron structures.

Calatrava's PATH station cost $4B. A plan to rebuild Penn Station was floated a while ago that cost $2.5B:

It doesn't even look stable. How do those rocks stay in place? Everything I learned in the structural design class is now in the trash bin.

I don't even see why it's hideous so I agree with you. Unusual, maybe, but it looks quite nice to me.

Welcome.

Edit: Fine. It doesn't belong in the thread as it is not traditional architecture. At best it's a caricature of traditional architecture. You know I am always more stringent about these things.....

Many castles have a top-heavy appearance. It's nothing new.

I actually really like that castle. Sure, it's maybe not traditional classic style, but it still has the classic vibe for some reason. I'm glad there is some variation, people are actually trying to ''invent'' new types of architecture, which is a good development.

And thanks for the answers to my question. The fact about the 8 castles is insane. The modern building looks hideous in comparison, but that's just my opinion. I would never have guessed that palace was newly built if I saw it in person. Looks amazing .
