Completely agree, too bad that user had to start a political discussion. You'd think after 3 years he'd know the rules.

I think the windows are too big.

It looks a bit weird, but I like it.

Humboldt Forum Berlin

I'm guessing this has been posted somewhere in the thread, but an interesting one is the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, which is a rebuilding of the old Berlin City Palace of the Kings of Prussia/Kaisers of Germany. Actually, it's just two or three sides that are being rebuilt as replicas of the palace, and the other sides are modern. The interior also will be modern.

I'll post a link once I get access, but you can also see if you do an image search for "Humboldt Forum Berlin."

The Humboldt Forum doesn't belong in here. It is part faithful reconstruction (three outer facades, one courtyard, three inner portals and the dome) and part completely modern. There is no newly designed classical architecture.

That is one hell of a reconstruction though. I want to visit Berlin just to see its construction phase. The project is state-funded right? It must be extremely costly. Full reinforced concrete load bearing, natural laser cut lime stone, intensive real brick work, possibly special isolation and hand-made ornamentation !!! Of course the result is beyond GORGEOUS!

I even like the contemporary facade because it represents the contemporary interior spaces and the modern soul of the city. One of the very few projects that excites me as an architect.

Yes, the project is partly state-funded, partly Berlin-funded and partly funded by private donations (I donated too ). Just the reconstruction of the facades cost 120 million Euro. They already planned and worked on them for about two decades. Some of the ornamentations is up to 6 metres tall and costs as much as a brand new Ferrari.

Some impressions of the amazing craftsmanship to come:

Inside a marriage of old and new:

Here you can take a live look on the ongoing reconstruction process:

Regarding a lot of the buildings in Tehran, especially Dorsa Apartments, it's interesting how much they resemble the 1980s Ceaucescu Socialist buildings in Bucharest that lead to the Palace of Parliament. --Multistory cement buildings that use a lot of classical ornament that is out of place.

we already had these, and they're still modern buildings!

Placing some random ornamentation on a building DOES NOT make it a traditional design!

Still, a very interesting postmodern attempt at contemporary ornamentation!

But such examples should go there: Postmodern Architecture

Or in another thread called "The evolution of architecture themes" or something along the lines.

i don't think its so wide of the mark that it should be barred from this thread, the design isn't so far removed from the likes of >this<, for example. it is also arguably a more successful design than many of the projects on this thread.

It is too far off the mark. It neither caters to classical proportions of any kind, nor to early modern ones that follow the same set of rules.
Which doesn't make it a bad building, but I think we agreed more than once that this thread takes another direction, generally speaking. Also see the initial post #1.

i'm familiar with the first post (with the video showing my home city's main museum) i just don't get why such exception is being taken to this particular building so its proportions are metric but the overall effect is that of traditional, imperial, proportions. its not the best but there is certainly worse on this thread!

Looks like St. Petersburg for me.
There are plenty of new houses like this in St. Petersburg, because they look "safe" and will be accepted by local residents.
