Old Parkland West Campus in Dallas is just brilliant... ticks every box for this thread.

I like the Izmir development too, very reflective of the vernacular architecture of the region.

Not to bad, but still has a lot of flaws that could have been easily avoided!...

Yeah, especially those long pediment windows and the porticus with the oversized columns bug me there. We don't need any of these faux nouveau riche palaces. If you go postmodern, eclecticist or early post-classical like Jugendstil, Expressionism or Art Deco, at least do it right!

But obviously this was an attempt to stay full-classical without a compromise to "modern needs" - that hardly works this way, you just can't change the proportions! You can even build classical-styled skyscrapers like the NY Municipal Building and others, but you have to get your stuff straight.

I think the one in Dallas just crossed over into tacky territory, which is always a risk in interventions like these. The Izmir one is fantastic.

I think you need to see an optometrist.

The Dallas complex is about as spot on as you'll get for classical and traditional design, well proportioned, exemplary detailing and all the other attributes which makes classicism so timeless and beautiful.

I also think the stone and the color palette were not good choices, it really feels quite tacky to be honest.

I disagree. Although I think I understand. When I first saw it, I thought it was too big, too monumental. However it seems to me that the proportions are right and the materials, detailling, colors and landscaping are simply fantastic.

Rather interesting design for a new theatre in Houston, Texas. I cannot help thinking it need some roof. This is a rendering by architect, Allan Greengerg, of the new 84,000-square-foot facility with a 600-seat, European-style opera theater that will connect to Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. The school has announced that construction will begin in September 2017.

The roof definitely looks incomplete.

I'm subscribed to quite a few State DOT Flickr feeds and usually you don't see much new build traditional architecture in the photos of construction they post. This was an unexpected surprise.

It's a simple building but well designed I think.
