. The façades were designed in pressed enameled steel reflecting the technology of the 20th century in a 19th century context.

Landmarks Preservation Commission approval.
If you want to be specific, those facades appear to mimic something built in the Italianate style, between 1870 to 1900.

Also, I found the complete building on street view

It would've been much more beautiful if it was straight-up linear.

But what's your opinion on all those fake buildings we build today that copies international style buildings from the '20s to '60s? Buildings such as this:

And who should decide what is a right style to build or not?

I fully support context, but only something that echoes an old building, and not a fake copy of 1800 built in 2013.
I believe you are not using the word context in the meaning that people familiar with the English language understand.

You are reference is to its meaning in the modernists dictionary. I reproduce here the relevant extract from the bible of Corbusier (Prophet of Ugliness, Peace Be Upon Him) for the benefit of the people on this forum.

Modernist Dictionary definition of contextual "Putting a butt ugly building right in the midst of a beautiful urban area with gorgeous building designed by real architects and then watch with infantile glee as the people are shocked and disgusted by what we have done to their city. Note: If the peasants should protest the ugliness, shout them down by calling them backward and using big words whose meaning we hope they don't understand, since we don't either."

There, that should sort out the confusion. You are welcome!

It is also interesting to see what it replaces. Here is the 'before' and 'after' comparison. The image on the left from is GoogleMaps Street view, the one on the right is from the building website.

The brutalist building being replaced (Hunter College), looks fairly forbidding from the street. So definitely a net positive for New York's streetscape.

These buildings don't represent our age anymore. It's the same as having a Cathode ray tube in your room,or believing the women's role in society is to take care of home and children.
Don't ask me what's the right style to built because neither me nor any other architect would have an easy answer for that.Instead of that, ask yourself, what buildings will we let to future generations?

I don't give a shit to Le Corbusier's definition.Look at the examples I posted and you see no resemblance to what "Le Win's Corbusier" said.

New residential building being built in the middle of Stockholm. Looks art deco, which isn't common in Stockholm, but it looks good. And it replaced an butt-ugly modernist building so it's a plus.

The progress of the building; http://www.wallenstam.se/Projekt1/Fr...ns-Bild-Arkiv/
