Just to prove it's not all roses and sunshine in the USA:

Nevada Supreme Court - Carson City, Nevada - 2016

Full sized: http://nvcourts.gov/uploadedImages/c...s/IMG_2294.JPG

I posted it large so you can see the detail in the design. All of that effort and money and they get that pile of garbage. Just imagine if they had a competent architect....

You're right about that one. Must have gotten a Las Vegas architect.

And to think this exists in the same state as the beautiful new construction Smith Center.

Why didn't they just hire that architect!

This was one of the worst things I've seen in this forum, so I had to find out more. Here's a choice quote from the designer himself:

Quote:
Yohan Lowie: Most people think I’m a great architect, but in fact, I have no formal training in architecture, drafting or manufacturing. All the skills I have gained are from on-the-job training, and are G-d’s gift. As a young man, I was always fascinated with buildings and structures, especially the old ones—centuries- or thousand-year-old stone buildings—and I always imagined, “What are they for? Who designed and built them? Who occupied them, and how is it possible that they have lasted for such a long time and probably will for centuries more after we are all gone?”
More ridiculously clueless quotes here:
http://www.vegaslegalmagazine.com/supreme-beauty/

It sounds like this was a primo pork barrel project for Lowie's firm. Typical Vegas corruption and typical Vegas tastelessness. No wonder it looks like something from a failed state.

Horrible, just horrible. I wonder where he was visiting Europe to learn about classical architecture. Could only be skopje... actually i doubt he ever left USA or even read a book about architecture. This guy is an abomination of mankind!

Indeed, David M. Schwarz would've been a massively better pick.

To build a kitschy official building (supreme court, dear!) is imho multiple times as worse as in a private building.
