59 Bolshoy Prospekt
St. Petersburg, Russia
Built

The work was carried out on the facades of two adjacent houses on the Bolshoy Prospect of the Petrograd Side. Facades are designed anew. Previously, they remained typical budget revenue houses, devoid of any decor, except for smooth moldings. The customer wished to give the facades an expressive appearance. Of course, this task was to be carried out in such a way that the new decorative decoration did not contradict the surrounding historical development of the center of St. Petersburg. The Renaissance motifs introduced by us into the facade molding fully corresponded to this task. This style was in demand in the second half of the XIX century. in St. Petersburg. In our opinion, the facades have acquired a unique expressive appearance and organically blended into the construction of the Bolshoy Prospekt. And, despite the fact that they are projected from scratch in the 21st century,

Church of St. Tamar in Kharkiv (architect Pavel Chechelnitsky)

This church reminds me of the Church of the Sign of Our Lady in Dubrovitsy

No idea. At first I thought it is new building cuz I found it in "architecture revival" thread on reddit. Tho it might actually be from 19th century. Sorry about that.

Here is what these buildings looked in 1999.
I prefer that modest (but not plain) look.

Great article Indeed. I just wish more cities (and architects) would dare to bring back the classic lines and styles, a back-to-basics sort of thing.

Posted but disaperad? Two renovated facades 2004 and 2007 at RUE DE NAMUR in Brussels, Belgium. One from modernism to postmodern classicism and the other to look more true to original art deco.
