I actually really like those buildings. The bases still look traditional, and the overall grandeur helps change my perception on current Latin America architecture.

I always loved this proposal. There's still chances for it to get built, especially now that Berlin turns into one of the hottest real estate markets in the world.

BERLIN STYLE - Prime example for New Urbanism

Btw, talking about Berlin:

The German capital is on the forefront of New Urbanism since its beginnings.

In recent years (since the fall of the Berlin Wall), a very own classical / traditionalist style evolved. Some call it Berlin Style.

It is often monumental, features few ornaments, is leaning towards Berlin's Prussian prewar architecture and has strong lines and traditional/classical proportions and quality materials.

I'll show some examples of this style now.

Another one in Berlin-Mitte (central Berlin) - this one features an open courtyard that was typical for some prewar quarters in Berlin:

A whole urban quarter mainly built in Berlin Style: Wertheim Store / Leipziger Platz Quartier - right next to Potsdamer Platz in the heart of the city!

As I said many of them appear as rather simplistic, but that's pretty much how Berlin's prewar courtyard buildings often appeared. Kitsch is luckily avoided in most cases.

A wonderful project right in Berlin's heart, very close to its Cathedral (Berliner Dom), Museum Island and the future reconstructed Berlin Castle (Humboldt-Forum):

Kronprinzengärten (Crown Prince Gardens):

Something different here - a complex in Berlin's industrial style, with trains running through the building.

I really dig those projects!
All of course not reconstructions, but newly designed buildings.

Perhaps this concept will be revived? Would be fantastic.

Many of these projects are rather humble and elegant, but avoid being heavily posh / nouveau riche bling:
