Do as you please, but I'm not sure that's in the sense of the thread opener.

Have this been shown here before? Completed in 2009 with a design by Oleg Carlsson. It is located in Moscow.

Looks rather successful and tasteful I must say. Shame there does not appears to be any larger images available.

Wow, a Jugendstil marvel from Moscow - made in 2009!

Sochi is overdone for my taste, but very interesting nonetheless. Shame they're evaporating loads of wonderful nature though.

The "Pompeian house" is pure kitsch indeed, the Hotel is well done.

I quite like how this building looks in real life, but I don't dare to say it built in traditional or any historical style. It's pure post-modernist for me.

Ironically, the vividly painted "classical" details on the Pompeiian Moscow building are a much more accurate representation of actual Greek and Roman buildings than what is currently considered classical.

Well, so you're saying that if you put Rubens paintings on a brutalist building it will become baroque...?

It's not the colors causing the problems at that McPompeiian house. It's the overall proportions, the columns, the balconies and the awkward roof.

No, merely stating a lesser known fact about how current notions of the classical do not reflect the historical reality in the specific example of brightly painted architectural details. If you took it as a defense of the building's design, that's a matter of your own reading comprehension.

I do think it's an entertaining building though.

Yes it is entertaining, but I would rather call the building style post-modernist-pseudo-something because of the proportions of the classical elements. It's strange to see how "classical architects" in eastern-europe seems to know nothing about the classical order. Yes, there are some good examples, but when such big projects like those in Sotsji try to mimic classical architecture it just becomes embarassing

The "art nouveau" and "pompeian" houses are not postmodernism, but pastiche. And quite good at it actually. If I were an excentric Russian millionaire, I'd want to live in such a place.
