Impressive! Obviously historicism is alive and kicking again! Belle Epoque 2.0, welcome to the 21st century.

Oh, I don't think it's that bad. Certainly it's a lot better than that. The portico seems salvageable, with better fenestration. The windows on the side will need to be made narrower and taller. As for the dome- go big or go home, and I think it'd be better to go home here. It's not a total wreck. The Yingquan one however was completely hopeless.

That's the Park Potomac development in Maryland, near Washington, and were built around 2010.

They're very nice, but are reflective of modern tastes- wider than classic ones mainly. And that's okay, old townhomes can be painfully narrow! There's no reason classical architecture should be forced to remain static and uninnovative, slavish and imitative, just because it's no longer popular. It was innovative throughout history, from time immemorial.

I think if you have a good grasp of it, you can and should feel free to change things and not repeat the past mindlessly. That's the way I think contemporary classicism can be made lasting, that it is acceptable to change within the the language of classicism. It's what they did in the Renaissance, the Beaux-arts era, Baroque, etc. I recall some people calling some Russian apartment buildings "kitsch and different" a while back- I liked them! The point is not so much to build something that is like the past but rather something that is lasting and attractive. The language of classicism provides that, but I think many people are unaware as to how broad that language can be.

What beauties on this thread. I must say though that I may disagree a little with some of the most hard-core "orthodox" classical architecture supporters (those who berate modern architecture, etc.). I think that every kind of architecture has its function, and the ultimate goal is to create balance and harmony. However, I do respect their views.

Neo-Byzantine, I'd say.

Victorian Gardens facade looks pretty cheap to me and the one in Zell is just some tacky ugly bitch and has nothing to do with classical architecture.
Randall Residences and Odessa seem to be some good try but i am not entirely convinced by those rednerings. The typical problem of low ceilings and too large windowos. They could still come out very tacky at the end.

I'm impressed. The proportions are spot on! It looks like something out of Jackson Ward or the Fan ( )
