The University of Texas at Austin is the flagship public university of Texas, and one of the best universities in the world. It enrolls more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The historic campus has dozens of beautiful, classical buildings in a Spanish-Mediterranean revival style. The primary architects were Cass Gilbert and Paul Cret. Here are some of the most beautiful buildings on campus and their function.

The Main Building, "aka the Tower". It houses the university president, administration, and even a Life Sciences Library. It was designed by Paul Cret in 1937.

Waggener Hall, designed by Paul Cret in 1931. It houses the Departments of Classics and Philosophy, and the Classics library.. This is a good building for those departments! I can't imagine a classics, history, or philosophy department being put in a modern glass-and-steel office building look-alike.

The iconic main building of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.

Looks even better at night.

The other side of the campus is dominated by the Science building. I pass through it daily, and think it looks awesome in person. As the entire university is located on a hill overlooking the city, the building is visible from far away.

This is St. Patrick's College, which is part of the campus of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. It has been Ireland's main seminary (Catholic priest training center) and is also school of theology, and dates back to the late 18th century. Looks best in the autumn where red leaves grow on the vines covering the buildings.
