Czech republic | Various Places

Christmas are coming, so I've started tidying up... my computer. I've found some photos, and since they don't fit into any thread, I've decided to start a thread dedicated to pictures from various locations in our country.

Jezeří chateaux

Here we go, starting with
Jezeří chateaux (Eisenberg)

Located in northern Bohemia close to Litvínov, on southern slopes of Krušné hory (Erzgebirge). It was built in place of an older castle, current looks are result of major reconstruction in 1696-1713 after fire in 1649. It was owned by Lobkowicz family, used as an internment camp for (mostly) French military officers during WWII, neglected and devastated in latter decades, almost torn down in 1980s. Thanks to enthusiasts it survived, unlike the villages it overlooked for centuries, which were evicted and consumed by the humongous coal quarry. It's being repaired slowly since 1990s.

The official website (Czech only) and photogallery.

Here are my photos - not much the chateaux itself, you can find such photos in the official gallery .

The never finished chapel nearby:

Water reservoir (obviously):

The chateaux and mainly it's surroundings:

Chemopetrol factory in Záluží:

Komořany power plant:

The ČSA coal quarry eating away the landscape:

One feels really small here... (click for a bigger picture)
