This weekend sees the closure to allow the two stage restoration of two way tram running through Victoria Station.

Here is a set of shots taken on Sunday morning when I took a train trip down to have a look at what the orange army were up to. What an orange army it is, they seem to be everywhere.

Anyway here goes with a selection of shots.

Through a rather grubby Class 150 window approaching the station. Evidence of ballasting work. No doubt associated with the tamper kriis heard.

P1090872 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090873 by sghyde, on Flickr

The view from Platform 1 with work at the north end and also OLE installation through the stop.

P1090874 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090875 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090877 by sghyde, on Flickr

The netting and sheeting on the roof now seems to cover the area of the Metrolink southern island and platform 1 and 2.

P1090879 by sghyde, on Flickr

Now up to the mezzanine for a peek through the sheeting.

The junctions now look complete with only point stretchers and machines to install. No doubt that is a gross over simplification. I do love this view though.

P1090880 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090881 by sghyde, on Flickr

A view along the southern island platform from the concourse.

P1090884 by sghyde, on Flickr

Outside on Long Millgate more OLE work.

P1090890 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090891 by sghyde, on Flickr

A couple of views of the junctions from Long Millgate area.

P1090891 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090893 by sghyde, on Flickr

A bit closer in.

P1090898 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090899 by sghyde, on Flickr

Over to Balloon Street were the track gangs are busy re-instating the double track. In fact talking to an MRDL guy I know on site it seems there are 2 separate jobs on the go here. MRDL are replacing some rails on the curves at the top of Balloon Street and Morgan Sindall are restoring the double track. Bearing in mind this section isn't required for traffic until Saturday it looks to be going well.

P1090900 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090901 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090903 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090905 by sghyde, on Flickr

I think the fence across the track in this shot marks the boundary between the 2 worksites.

P1090906 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090908 by sghyde, on Flickr

The MRDL work is almost finished with the new rails grouted in.

P1090909 by sghyde, on Flickr

And all the rails seem to be laid out within the Morgan Sindall site.

P1090910 by sghyde, on Flickr

The welders were busy near to Corporation street junction.

P1090904 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090955 by sghyde, on Flickr

Now to have a look at Millgate Siding where the question over whether or not it is to be restored has been answered. It is back as evidenced by this road railer backing in there over the restored points.

P1090933 by sghyde, on Flickr

and these few shots showing the OLE gang wiring it.

P1090965 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090966 by sghyde, on Flickr

The new wire can just be made out hanging down in this shot.

P1090969 by sghyde, on Flickr

One or two shots from the eastern footbridge.

P1090924 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090926 by sghyde, on Flickr

The only point machine so far installed along with a temporary point indicator. I am now certain the when 2 way running starts once again they will use the southern island platform and use this set of points to regain the outbound line.

P1090927 by sghyde, on Flickr

The same set of points with a wooden cover over the machine and the temporary point indicator as seen from platform 1.

P1090956 by sghyde, on Flickr

More OLE work

P1090928 by sghyde, on Flickr

Finally one or two taken from Cheetham Hill Road Bridge.

P1090911 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090912 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090917 by sghyde, on Flickr

Thats all for now. I do have one or two more general shots taken of electrification progress which I will post shortly.

Now here are a few of my shots of the electrification works at Victoria taken today.

Firstly someone has decided that those wires at the west end of platform 3 needed screening off.

P1090952 by sghyde, on Flickr

There are now quite a few more wires ending at the western footbridge.

P1090953 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090947 by sghyde, on Flickr

I think someone has already pointed out that the return conductor is up through platform 5.

P1090945 by sghyde, on Flickr

Also quite few of the registration arms are now up through platforms 5 and 6.

P1090943 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090938 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090937 by sghyde, on Flickr

More steelwork has appeared between platforms 3 and 4.

P1090942 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090940 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090936 by sghyde, on Flickr

Both gantries at the east end of the platforms now have insulator assemblies on them.

P1090932 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090931 by sghyde, on Flickr

Foundations are in place east of the road bridge at East Junction.

As tomorrow's deadline fast approaches at Victoria a few shots I took earlier.

I am told that tomorrow still looks good.

Anyway a few photos. Apologies for the quality of some but the sun was a bit of a problem from some viewpoints.

The southern island platform is looking a lot clearer now.

P1090972a by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090974a by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100062 by sghyde, on Flickr

From what I was told it will just be this face of the platform that is used until Saturday.

P1100058 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100057 by sghyde, on Flickr

This set of points will be manually operated to allow trams into and out of the single platform line. Note the point minders hut.

P1100065 by sghyde, on Flickr

Elsewhere still a lot of OLE work in progress.

P1090973 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090977 by sghyde, on Flickr

The sun was showing off all the knitting over Long Millgate.

P1090980a by sghyde, on Flickr

North of Cheetham Hill Road they were working on the trackside isolators and OLE.

P1090984 by sghyde, on Flickr

Millgate Siding points can now bee seen clearly

P1090985 by sghyde, on Flickr

The old blue temporary OLE masts are now redundant.

P1090990 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090989 by sghyde, on Flickr

The ETFE on the roof has certainly come on over the past few days.

P1090991 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1090994 by sghyde, on Flickr

Paving for the entrance to the platforms has been laid.

P1100048 by sghyde, on Flickr

The amount of light under the roof is very noticeable now.

P1100055 by sghyde, on Flickr

Sorry but I still can't get enough of the lot.

P1100060 by sghyde, on Flickr

I'll post another set showing Balloon Street area.

On Balloon Street we now have all the track in place although not all is fastened in yet.

P1100001 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100002 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100003 by sghyde, on Flickr

Here they are constructing shuttering prior to grouting under and around the rails.

P1100004 by sghyde, on Flickr

The newly replaced curve at Dantzic Street is fully grouted now.

P1100005 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100006 by sghyde, on Flickr

Grouting in progress on the outbound or downhill line.

P1100009 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100010 by sghyde, on Flickr

There is a set of insulated joints to fit here, the set on the outbound are already fitted.

P1100011 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100012 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100018 by sghyde, on Flickr

Still work to complete on the OLE, but they won't have had access to do it whilst the track gangs are in.

P1100019 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100043 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100046 by sghyde, on Flickr

P1100047 by sghyde, on Flickr

This pole the location of which which was discussed a couple of weeks ago is apparently temporary. No doubt it will be replaced as 2CC work progresses.

P1100020 by sghyde, on Flickr

There is still 3 days to go yet at this end of the job.
