I love the way the water evaporates from the tiles after they're laid!

Work to start on city centre bus travel improvements
25 February 2015

Work to improve bus travel through Manchester city centre will start this week, as part of a major scheme to future-proof the city’s transport infrastructure.

A new 3D video fly-through now takes people on a virtual journey through the city, showing improvements for bus users, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users at the TfGM website.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Manchester City Council have developed the bus priority package to significantly improve the quality, punctuality and reliability of bus services on 25 miles of key routes that run through the city and across Greater Manchester

Tyldesley businesses discuss plans to transform town square
24 February 2015

Pictured (l-r) are Pamela Jones-Brown (Grow for Giving Project), with Chris and Paula Wakefield (Digitopia).
Businesses were asked for views on plans to modernise Tyldesley town square today as part of the region’s flagship guided busway scheme.

Officers from Wigan Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) met with local businesses to discuss the plans, which have also be sent to 10,000 addresses across the area.

They were asked for their views as part of the scheme’s ongoing community engagement programme. This includes two drop-in sessions at Tyldesley Library on Thursday (2-7pm) and Friday (12-5pm) to which residents have been invited to come along, take a look at and make comments on the plans

Wow, that speaker is a monster and combined with the 8 (2 each side) small ones under the shelter the system must pack some punch.

Imagine what it will be like when the second island platform is commissioned. I hope that the system will be zoned between the 2 platforms and set up properly.

Some More from Victoria

So, this was my first visit to Victoria for about two months, so I was very excited to see what was going down, especially on the Metrolink side of things.

Frames for the Louvres have appeared, in-between the anchors:

You can't beat those tracks! :

After being confined to a narrow scaffold-corridor for a year, this is a lovely, bright space:

DSCN0664 by pjm0512, on Flickr

I really like the way the shop unit ties into the Station Buildings:

The Ticket Machines await their commissioning:

A tramspotter's dream, the Victoria mezzanine (say it style of a bingo caller ):

The second platform is coming along well:

It looks as if the 2CC lines will leave Victoria on quite a steep gradient:

What a brilliant view!:

Lots of workers were putting the netting up for the ETFE today:

The ground-level shop unit and lift doors are visable now:

Re-cladding the staircase:

This 'T' has appeared. Can anyone enlighten me into what this means?:

I was really impressed with the finish on the Metrolink platform:

Installing a pipe to keep the ETFE inflated:

I don't seem to be able to pinpoint the use of the building on the right:

I also went a bit further for some different perspectives on the project:

All Steam Ahead on the Second City Crossing

So I'm going to do 2CC/ St. Peter's Square in this installment.

A large foundation slab has gone down at St. Pete's:

DSCN0601 by pjm0512, on Flickr

I was explaining the tri-track layout to a man whilst I took this picture, it will certainly be an interesting layout:

Demolition continues for No. 2 St. Peter's Square:

DSCN0606 by pjm0512, on Flickr

So, as you can tell, lots of work seems to have been concentrated on the Exchange Square side of things. Tracks seem to be sprouting all over the place!

New section on Corporation Street:

'End of the line':

Manchester Metrolink 2CC 28/02/2015 by pjm0512, on Flickr

Nothing seems to have appeared of the stop:

Manchester Metrolink 2CC 28/02/2015 by pjm0512, on Flickr

All grouted and tar-maced outside Urbis:

A quick pop to the Co-op (bank and shop, £5.76 for two AA batteries for my camera!), and off to Victoria I go.
More to follow...

A currious thing happened at Victoria station:

Deasgate-Castlefield stop update:

Re-enforcement bars have gone in at the base of the "living wall" (Just visible on the left). Think this may have been a while ago but only just poked my camera around.

TMS loops are in on the two working lines.

And in this photo we can see a GMTR has gone in on the end of the shelter (there's one at the other end too), the GMTR at the bottom of the steps has re-gained its head, a new curved lamp post has gone in at this end of the platform (The one at the other end is still the old type) and this also has a slightly out-of-place looking speaker attached to it. There was a large crane at DC on Sun. Presumably it lifted this into place. I couldn't see anything else it may have been doing.

Work has started again with people on site doing more prep at the top of the bridge & steps as well as at the back of the new platform ready for the ramp. I expect things will start picking up speed again this week.

Sorry doesn't count unless there's a photo containing cones and those daft plastic barriers with the swivel feet that always fail in the wind (or when pushed over by drunks)
