Some more Victoria shots taken today.

Sods Law after Friday evening when the roof line lights were off, they were lit this afternoon: ohno:

Work on the old screen over Soldiers Gate. I have just noticed on this shot that the WW1 display has gone. It was there on Friday evening.

P1100582 by sghyde, on Flickr

More steel going in for the doors.

P1100586 by sghyde, on Flickr

After an earlier post we were commenting on the green algae on the buttresses, they are now being cleaned.

I am still trying to work out how this area will be finished.

P1100789 by sghyde, on Flickr

We now pass through the ticket gates and find the big progress since my last day light visit.

Platforms 3, 4, 5 and 6 are wired. Albeit not finally registered or even fixed in some places.

Platforms 3 and 4

Manchester Victoria resurgent,...

Quote:
On Friday I popped over to Manchester for a catch up with a few friends and chance to sample some of Manchester’s most atmospheric pubs. A bonus to this foray across the Pennines was the chance to check out progress on the refurbishment of Manchester Victoria station & Northern hub electrification work.

The ‘march of the masts ‘has progressed Eastwards from the station with the first concrete mast bases & uprights appearing past Cheetham Hill road bridge. Contact wires have been strung on all the through roads although there’s a lot of work to be done before they can be energised. The West end of the station appears to be fully wired. The area’s a veritable forest of masts & cables now. This has resulted in the loss of a well used photographic location because the view from the footbridge outside the station is obscured by the ‘knitting’. In addition, the bridge sides have been built up to protect unwary passengers from the overheads.

To give you an idea of the changes...

I also noticed this drainage cover. I saw it a few weeks back and thought it was temporary for a broken black one. But I now notice it is the same colour as the stone so may be testing to replace all with this more fitting cover

Question.

From my point of view the redevelopment of Victoria Station is currently the jewel in Manchester's Crown.

Progress on Deansfield-Castlefield stop:

While there were plenty of people on site today, There weren't many photoable advances. People were prepping a pile of rebar for the top of the bridge-steps. People were also doing something there at a street level. You could hear things going on with exhibition bridge but can't see past the tent.

One thing you could see was the laying of tiles at the outbound end of the new outbound platform.

I'm also not sure if there's been a picture yet of this points indicator (stubby one in the centre). Sorry for the low quality. I tried to get a closer shot but the shutter-lag on my mobile could probably be counted in seconds....
And some shots from Trafford Depot:

An errant 319362 on platform 1 at Oxford Road in disgrace after it lost power in Platform 14 at Piccadilly with the 1540 Man Airport to Liverpool, chaos ensued for around half an hour!

They are stoning up behind and the crates you can see against the wall contain paving stones, hard to see but presumably to match the platform.

Manchester Victoria Station

Manchester was wrapped in summer sunshine to-day, so I thought it would be the perfect time to get down to our Vic

Firstly, Automatic Doors have been installed in one entrance!:

Very shiny (and reflective) doors too!:

Cleaning the mosaic:

The 10p view from Platform 1:

Just slightly off angle, but the tram in-between the shelter:

Only as I post, I've realised I snapped a Driver Training tram:

They have heightened the footbridge, due to the Electrification of Vic, so it's harder to photograph from the creamy rust-pot now!:

NR OHLE now have copper:

More OHLE from 3:

I love the new wires, as the copper shows up like mad:

The new stairs have banisters (sort of):

I think tiling may be applied soon:

New Northern Rail style signage has been applied over the old BR style:

So, East End now, where it's even harder to take photos, and even more apparent as to the situation of the Electrification:

One Greengate will look great in addition to Victoria:

Sorry to sway off-topic, but this is an interesting view:

This is the barrier in question:

Wire mesh fencing:

More OHLE:

So, the Upper-Mezzanine was open to-day (there was a Children's event on at the Arena I think, so the Lift was required for the vast amount of buggies, however I am unsure whether this arrangement is temporary), which granted for spectacular views of te
project:

The scaffolding has been removed from the upper-louvres, allowing for the glass to let even vaster amounts of light flood in!:

I can't wait till the Poly-Tunnel is removed:

I can't see this unit being busy when it is opened:

Good views of the Metrolink platforms too!:

The roof lights were on:

The lift, in all its glory:

Wow:
