PJM`S Update...

A new surface has been installed on the Metrolink lines directly after the station:

The approach to Soldiers' Gate (complete with bollards); clearly visible is a SPAS Beacon:

New retractable bollards:

The new surface - at first I thought it was resin-bound pebbles, but on closer inspection it is a concrete compound - and altogether creates a very open space:

Looking towards Balloon Street:

The contractors up on the Cherry Picker seemed to be messing with a rubber lining:

Cigar Alley:

And another large open space, this time indoors:

Points Indicator or Signal? I'm sure Freel can tell us :

Only platforms D and C are signed now; B and A must be awaiting lettering:

Through the mezzanine stairs' glass barrier:

The mezzanine almost feels like a vast, floating walkway:

Didn't seem like a very wet floor:

Interesting to see TMS loops being installed on the platform :

A new 'Off' indicator for platform 2:

Temporary Northern Rail and permanent Network Rail platform signs:

For all you pigeon despisers: Anti-pigeon wiring has been installed:

Was it Richardio that showed us this distant departure board?:

I have to say the integration of the NR platforms and Metrolink platforms is very good, and makes the station look very smart and well laid-out - even down to the same paving and lighting:

Looking down from the bottom of Balloon Street:

A couple of different perspectives:

Ohh yeah, nearly forgot. Dorris is announcing in full force, however, her 'ironing out' of sentences is worse than her Piccadilly sister. The volume of stations is different; for example, 'The next train on platform 3 is the... 12:47... Northern Service to Huddersfield. Calling at... Ashton-under-Lyne (loud), Stalybridge (quiet)...'.

I did take a few recordings on my phone, unlike at Piccadily where there are loud spots and quiet spots, Victoria's PA system is of an equal volume everywhere, so the recordings are of very low volume and quality.

Leigh to Manchester bus link: Criticism after delays announced
22 June 2015

A major bus improvement plan to link Leigh and Manchester has been hit with delays

New bus lanes were expected to open on the East Lancashire Road this summer as part of a 14-mile (21km) busway route.

TFGM said the lanes will now open by the end of the year, with "uncharted utilities" underground causing delays.

Labour's Barbara Keeley MP for Worsley and Eccles South, said Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) "hasn't done a very good job of it".

Four-and-a-half miles (7km) of guided busway between Leigh and Ellenbrook is expected to be completed by early 2016

To offer good access to the city a Metrolink X1 shuttle bus will run a circular service between Piccadilly station, Trafford Bar and Cornbrook stops. Frequencies and times may change in line with customer demand.

Customers should have a valid ticket before boarding the buses. Tickets are available from machines at all Metrolink tram stops.

X1 shuttle service: Piccadilly Station (Fairfield Street) – Trafford Bar – Cornbrook – Piccadilly Station (Fairfield Street).

From Monday 29 June until the end of August, the X1 shuttle service will run as follows:

Monday to Friday
X1 services will run from 6am to 8pm. Services will operate an approximate 10 minute frequency. The frequency will be increased during peak times.
Weekends
X1 services will run approximately every ten minutes 7am - 7pm on weekends.

New Metroshuttle routes:

And finally, there's a map with a walking route between Market Street, Piccadilly Gardens and Deansgate-Castlefield marked on it:

http://www.metrolink.co.uk/ServiceDi...lk%20route.pdf

This also confirms that there will be a walking route through St Peter's Square during the works, which I don't think they've confirmed until now.

Rarely seeing an empty tram anymore on the Airport line, first couple of months or so during "Off-Peak" I would see trams with only one or two people onboard but now I am starting to see most of the trams fairly well filled, some with standing room only,

Work continues at pace DC...

The new bus-stop poles were being installed for the amended metro-shuttle routes

Glass is being installed at the first landing of the new staircase

Interestingly, a couple of guys were core-boring the concrete on the site next to the stop. This is the one intended for another very large tower block. The existing works on the site were for a building started just before the recession hit.

The points at the city end crossing just had plastic sheets with black and white lines on them for the people-catcher. These have now had rounded pieces installed to serve their purpose as a people catcher and an access deterrent.

Unfortunately it doesn't come out well on photo atm, but here's the view of the trees from the outbound platform

Lots going on here. The supports for the PID have been installed, the temporary emergency call box has been replaced with a permanent one, a row of sleepers have been installed between the tracks (presumably to hold the sedum planters) and you can just see the edge of some recently installed glass at the far end of the shelter. The missing rip half-way down is where a CCTV camera is temporarily affixed.

Obviously the rate of change at Victoria is slowing now as the job approaches completion. However a visit today revealed 2 areas of interest.

Linked with the discussion on the Long Millgate bollards

P1120865 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

I see more have appeared along Station Approach. These seem more sensibly sited though.

P1120867 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120868 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120869 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

These seem to be fixed so presumably the only access for any wheeled vehicles will be from Long Millgate. The gull grey ones are the basic core before the stainless covers are fitted.

The other item was that work was going on at the Hansel and Gretel house where they were cleaning the glazed bricks and generally tidying up above the Enquiry Office.

Another team were fitting some form of flashing around one of the chimneys.

A couple of TMS shots

One of the spring point machines

P1120860 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and one of the powered machines with associated indicator.

TMS kit aplenty in this one.

A quick survey along 2CC today

As Johnny noticed earlier excavations now at the corner of the City Buildings.

P1120874 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120875 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Some changes to the layout at the junction of Todd Street. I'm not sure whether this is to allow the laying of the final bit of track across this area but the road traffic now runs along the outbound side.

P1120876 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120877 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The reinforcement is now being assembled for the site of the crossover west of Exchange Square.

P1120889 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120890 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

As marni noticed a new foot crossing is being installed outside the Arndale entrance presumably to allow the existing one to be removed in readiness for the installation of the platform.

P1120902 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

From the bridge between Selfridges and the Arndale

P1120895 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120897 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120898 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Further along Cross Street contractors working on the utilities gas mains have come across this.

P1120906 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In St Peters Square the new site offices were guarded by these monsters.

P1120908 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Over on the other side of the square the 1CC outbound/single line is coming along fine.

P1120909 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and runs across into Lower Mosley Street with only a small gap near the points.

P1120928 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1120946 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Four new temporary OLE poles have appeared now on massive above ground bases down near Windmill Street.

I don't get it - are workers deliberately left this portion untouched to show station's history? I mean where old roof was

A few from Market Street today. It is beginning to look as though the ramps aren't being resurfaced unless I'm just being impatient. The PIDS are switched on but not connected yet.
