Here is a set I took up at Rochdale station last week.

I thought I'd have a look at the recently re-opened subway at Rochdale Station today as I haven't been up there since it was opened up.

I can't remember whether any other photos have been posted so here is my offering. I must say the renovated section looks good, it's just a shame that the other part under the operational station has only been treated to a new coat of paint. It rather jars against the restored part.

The entrance on Miall Street. I bet you have to get there early to get these parking spaces.

I assume it is closed off by these large power operated gates out of hours.

P1060911 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1060913 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

There's a display of old photos showing the original condition, the semi derelict state and restoration.

P1060914 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1060915 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The old bridge girders have been restored nicely.

I think this recess housed one of the old ticket booths. A pair of nice imitation gas lamps set the scene.

The stairs up to the abandoned platforms.

Looking into the gloom under the operational part of the station.

Looking back to Miall Street.

P1060926 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In fact it's not quite as gloomy as it first looked. Even so the contrast is noticeable.

P1060928 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

From platform level.

P1060907 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Some trams to complete the scene.

These two had passed me as I sat on the train at Victoria, I was now waiting for my train back to Manchester.

Great photos freel, I love the restoration work that has been carried out at Rochdale, it looks superb, even down to the signage, excellent work.

But they wouldn't allow the busker to move to the new Interchange, presumably because someone thought it would lower the tone :-

So he had to stay at the old one where there were no people. There was only a penny in his hat so I put 50p in. Nice man to talk to :-

And wood is being put in, presumably for green boarding, at the expansion joints and on shapes in the bends. Shame they couldn't make specially shaped planters for these bits. Sort of doing a nice job with the tilling and messing up the grouting.

On another note, I was on the altrincham line the other day and noticed the platform edges on the disused sections of platform at Dane Road (iirc) have been cut back. I guess to reduce the chance of the trams clipping anything.

A review of the 2CC work yesterday starting at the junction of Cross Street and Princess Street.

The excavations at the Princess Street end of Cross Street continue, the exposed original MCT track I noticed last week has mostly gone now

P1130419 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130421 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

although as Johnny noticed a few odd scraps still remain lying in the compound

P1130422 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and a length can just be seen on the edge of the excavation.

P1130425 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

At the other end of Cross Street digging is well under way and it looks as though the foundations of some old buildings have been uncovered.

P1130425 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130427 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130428 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

On Corporation Street..

work continues now on the Victoria bound track base

P1130431 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130432 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

the assembly of the crossover continues and welding of the joints has been underway

P1130433 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130434 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

with welds being ground to profile

P1130439 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130442 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Work on the platform proceeds with more of the walls having been installed.

P1130447 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and a blockwork wall being built at the inner end of the ramp.

P1130448 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The Victoria bound track now curves through into Corporation Street

P1130450 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and further along it awaits final surfacing at Todd Street.

P1130452 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Slow progress seems to be made untangling the mess of cable ducts at Long Millgate by City Buildings.

P1130475 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

But the foundation of the large temporary OLE pole has been reduced in profile at its upper end presumably to allow the track slab to be built over it.

Another set of photos looking at the work associated with the St Peters Square job.

Starting on Mosley Street.

The laborious job of fastening the track fixings goes on. Drilling for all the bolts must be mind numbing.

P1130382 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130383 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130385 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130386 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Both inbound and outbound tracks are ready for surfacing and it looks as though the outbound has some temporary surfacing in the four foot.

P1130389 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Fencing now separates the two lines.

P1130391 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130392 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

South of Princess Street

P1130394 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

a new section of the foundation has appeared in the area where I would expect the 1CC inbound and 2CC outbound lines to cross.

P1130396 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

All the shelters have gone from the old stop now.

P1130398 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

On Lower Mosley Street a start has been made on removing the old inbound and outbound track

P1130401 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130403 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and the outbound/single line track is ow in place almost as far as the location of the temporary points.

P1130405 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130406 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The switch sections of the inbound points have been assembled, welded up and are now on the slab, the extended length of these units is apparent.

P1130410 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1130413 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The gap between the inbound and outbound track slabs has been filled where the temporary points will be located.

Some photos taken yesterday (Friday) at Victoria.

Now most of the fencing has gone from Long Millgate the area does look good and a good view into the station is available.

Pity about the temporary speed restriction sign.

A few taken inside later in the evening. I know everyone has their own views on the new look but I think it looks really good and such a contrast to what we had before.

I also took picture of 2CC work between Cross st and Exchange Square but again they look same to what other people have took but I posted them anyway.

As people mention worker have found old Manchester Corporation track on Cross st, give them a clean and they could use them for 2CC tracks.

Work have started just outside Booty store and guess once first section of 2CC line finishes they start putting tracks down here.

Tracks slab are down to end of first section of 2CC line.

Work is progressing at crossover near to Exchange Square stop.

Surprise they haven't put more platform base in at Exchange Square stop but do think we will see Exchange Square stop become more of Metrolink platform in coming weeks.

Never notice until I upload them on Flickr that crossover isn't attach together but guess it wouldn't be that hard to attach these tracks together.

I notice they started tarmacking tracks at bottom of Mosley St (near to St Peter Square stop) I guess they can do this given these tracks wouldn't be rip out in 10 months time.

Work going on in St Peter Square area.

Meanwhile at Hale station:

The introduction of the 319s on the newly-electrified lines has enabled Northern to strengthen more services on the Mid-Cheshire line to 4 carriages instead of 2.

Any ideas what the two stanchions wrapped in yellow tape will be for? One can be seen on each platform in the image below, with the newly-tarmaced cable trenches leading to them:

Time will tell, I suppose!

I'm looking on photos from Beetham Tower and I have a question - are there any public spaces, where visitors could take pictures for themselfs or it is restricted area?
