There is a public bar on the 23rd floor which has 360 degree views of the city.

So she had to pull up to the buffers and wait for the next one to come in :-

Then the gentleman came running back to collect his case - how does one fail to realise that a big garish thing like that is no longer with one? Anyway, let's hope he got his 'plane!

Incidentally, transfer between train and tram at the Airport is now much easier - they have removed the barriers so there is level access between all platforms (except the new island, not yet in use) :-

The gates with the no entry are not attached to anything now - presumably waiting to be removed :-

In fact, both faces of the island platform now look ready and willing - they could probably depart trams from there (like Media City) should the need arise :-

The delayed tram picked up its time by turning back at Firswood :-

If they did away with that 'Town' verbage the stop name would fit on the sign better . . .

Another 2CC photo update from yesterday afternoon.

On leaving Victoria Station I noticed that the layout of the fencing around the Long Millgate area has changed again since last week. Where the whole area was open at the end of last week, the final bit of the 2CC track is now enclosed within MPT's worksite so perhaps we will start to see the commencement of excavations to link the 2 sections together very shortly.

Surfacing was in progress at Todd Street.

Progress from St Peters Square yesterday afternoon. Starting from the Manchester Central end for a change.

The temporary single line points at the ramp end have appeared now and the components were being manhandled into place.

P1070164 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070170 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

There is just a short gap between the end of the outbound line and the points.

P1070166 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070178 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070179 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Meanwhile work continues on the inbound side as well.

P1070168 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070175 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070177 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Alongside the Midland Hotel the old track slab has gone and new sub-base in being laid and compacted for the 2 inbound lines.

P1070179 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070182 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070186 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In the square itself they are installing the shuttering to concrete in the last section of the outbound line at the south end.

P1070187 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Only the platforms remain now of the old stop.

P1070191 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

This looks like the beginnings of the outbound 1CC/2CC platform island.

P1070195 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

with the 2CC outbound to the right.

P1070196 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070198 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Princess Street crossing now half surfaced

P1070200 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and the footway layout at the Princess Street end of Mosley Street has changed allowing access to the new inbound line. There is quite a convoluted route now to get from one side of Mosley Street to the other requiring pedestrians to double back on them selves.

The temporary points on Mosley Street are almost finished now

P1070209 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

with just the curve on the inbound to join up.

Scaffold is back in place by the canal. I guess this is for the removal of the jig that has held the lower sections of steps in place until now.

And the hand-rails and some missing sections of glass are going in on the living wall steps along with tilling of the landings

The amount of manpower on this project is amazing it really is forging ahead, and looks like Exchange Sq line and stop is well on target.

Smart ticketing update
05 August 2015

Smart ticketing is coming to Greater Manchester, despite the ending of a contract between Transport for Greater Manchester and a key supplier.

TfGM and technical delivery partner Atos have agreed to the mutual termination of a contract to design, build and operate the get me there smart ticketing scheme.

Get me there, introduced in October on Metrolink for people with concessionary travel passes, will continue its development and rollout but with alternative suppliers, said TfGM

Just a few photos. Most of which I forgot to post yesterday.

The jig for the First Street steps has now gone. Not got a pic of it without it but here it was yesterday with chains and straps to aid removal.

The concrete slab at the First Street end has now been painted green. Worth noting this is past the wooden slats at the boundary of the sedum trays where I think things will remain as ballast

A rack of panes of glass for the wall above the locks has been sitting behind the fencing for a few days now

And some of the glass wall around the steps at the Deansgate train station of exhabition bridge has gone in. I assume hand-rails will be on metal supports as with the bridge here. There are mounting holes on the metalwork and no holes in the glass.

Thanks for this news WT. What kind of rolling stock would they use for the service? Would the train be an DMU, EMU or loco hauled?

These Class 390 Pendolinos I think, although their website just states "Investment in a fleet of new tilting trains".
