Whilst I was down at Victoria I reckoned I may as well have a walk to Exchange Square and back.

There was no obvious sign of any trams having passed down Corporation Street since the last runs on Monday night Tuesday morning.

As Andrew found yesterday virtually all the fencing has gone now as far as Exchange Square worksite itself. What a wide open space Long Millgate now is.

A copy of the amended Traffic Order for the highways affected by the line to Exchange Square is fixed to the traffic signal poles. The order comes into effect on November 16th, whether this means that this is date when full daylight running without road closures can start I am not sure.

On the walk back to Victoria I came across something I had previously missed. The junction between Todd Street and Corporation Street will have no traffic lights, it is marked out as a Give Way junction. This came as a bit of a surprise given the bus traffic using it. Lets hope it doesn't give rise to a spate of RTCs. The sight lines for road traffic trying to join corporation Street towards Withy Grove are pretty poor.

Plans for Stockport bus station redevelopment:

A new transport interchange for Stockport

As part of plans to make it easier to travel to, from and within Stockport, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Stockport Council are developing a new transport interchange to benefit passengers, residents and businesses.

The new interchange will provide a modern, attractive concourse and offer greater access for all passengers. It will also have better facilities, modern waiting areas, improved security and easier access to travel information and tickets through the redevelopment of the current bus station.

This development and other road improvements in Stockport town centre will see a safer, accessible environment created for pedestrians by limiting access for traffic into Mersey Square. This will be made possible through the construction of a new access route to the bus station from Heaton Lane, via a new road bridge across the River Mersey at Astley Street.

Stockport Council and TfGM are currently exploring potential residential, commercial and other development opportunities which might be appropriate for construction in conjunction with the new interchange. This will attract more investment into Stockport and would further support the regeneration of the borough

A trip into Manchester to meet a colleague and attend an IMechE presentation on the introduction of the Northern rail Class 319s gave an opportunity to obtain another 2CC update.

Starting in Exchange Square, there was nothing notable at the Victoria end other than some low level fencing had been erected between the 1CC and 2CC tracks on Long Millgate which were causing quite a few unwary pedestrians to get trapped as trams came down from Balloon Street.

P1150730 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The walkway now runs down the middle of the two lines towards Withy Grove allowing paving work either side.

Continuing the walk through to Lower Mosley Street.

United Utilities still at work on Cross Street.

As already reported the tent outside Cross Street Chapel has now almost completely gone.

P1150761 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Excavations at the bottom of King Street continue, presumably in readiness for the track slab base. Interesting to see that in Manchester MPT seem to be allowed to continue working through the Christmas shopping bonanza whereas in Birmingham work has been stopped until after Christmas beyond Bull Street other than some OLE work. Just have to see whether they can keep going right through other than for the normal Christmas holiday.

Paving continues alongside the completed northbound line on Cross Street. I wonder whether they are intending to try to finish the pavement along this length by the end of this month to help pedestrians flows.

P1150786 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

New concrete poured south of the last view.

P1150787 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

We are now able to get some idea of what those piles at the south end might be for. They were fastening extensions of the reinforcement steel onto the exposed ends using couplers with loads of set screws.

P1150795 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1150798 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

It looks to me as though those facing across the slab over the crypt will be used to connect with the exposed reinforcement over on the right forming a new independent slab and those facing along the alignment of the track will be part of a beam structure along the edge of the new slab.

P1150796 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

On Lower Mosley Street a section of the slab for the 1CC inbound line had been poured yesterday.

Nothing new to report on Cross St but nice to see them remove fences on junction of Cross St and Princess St.

End of 1st section of 2CC line.

TMS signal which were switch off.

I notice they got CCTV on platform and started putting glass on shelters.

My camera didn't took glass on shelter.

Hopefully we start seeing trams running to this station come Monday/Tuesday in daylight. (if poster about traffic is talking about tram testing running in daylight on Corporation St)

Just to bore everyone again I had yet another trip out along the 2CC section this afternoon.

On Lower Mosley Street rails were being lifted into position on the 1CC inbound alongside the Midland.

P1070815 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Over in St Peters Square assembly of all the reinforcement continues. Steel was being laid out across the lower slab today.

P1070817 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070818 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

I now think that the area covered with the waterproof membrane is where the church cross will be reinstated. The yellow line across the membrane in these two shots is labelled as the kerbline presumably for the link from 2CC outbound to the common outbound line.

A happy gang of MPT workers pose in this one!

More concrete poured for the 2CC outbound line. The 1CC inbound base lies immediately beyond.

Concrete going in for the start of the 2CC inbound (northbound) curve into Princess Street.

On Cross Street paving work continues

and work seems to be starting at Cross Street Chapel site now the tent has gone.

Near to Exchange Square the previously unlit point indicator is now lit, Thales were working there this afternoon.

P1070843 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1070846 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The walkways outside the Arndale have been changed yet again and paving is being finished off.

P1070844 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

A TMS mesh radio unit has appeared on one of the OLE masts.

Although it is difficult to make out all 4 of the glass screen are now in place on the shelters.

Earlier this year WingTips suggested that a few night shots might be of interest, so having a free evening as my wife was out I took a trip over to Oldham to try my hand. The weather wasn't exactly ideal, it was what you might call a typical Oldham wet evening but I gave it a go.

Starting at Oldham Mumps around 8 o'clock just as the last stragglers from the evening peak are coming home.

We see 3090 arrive from Ashton before heading off towards Shaw and Rochdale with the main A62 east visible in the background.

DSC_7436 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_7437 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Still at Mumps 3105 arrives from Rochdale.

DSC_7439 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

I hadn't noticed that the headlights were wiping this shot out.

DSC_7441 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

3083 arrives Rochdale bound

and heads off into the night.

3087 at the head of the first of 3 doubles heading for Ashton.

DSC_7451 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_7453-1 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Now a walk up to Oldham Central to try my luck again.

Just as I arrive 3075 pulls up at Central before heading of up Union Street for Rochdale.

DSC_7457-1 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_7460-2 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

3104 coupled to 3073 stands at the inbound side of Central's island platform waiting to leave for Manchester and Ashton

and they head off down Union Street to King Street stop.

DSC_7469-1 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Still at Central 3070 arrives from Manchester.

DSC_7471-1 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_7473-1 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Finally walking back to Mumps for my car the last of the 3 doubles, 3079 coupled to 3088, approaches climbing Union Street.

Some learning points for me in these. Firstly nearside shots will always be affected by the headlights as they obviously toe in to the left, secondly wet surfaces cause reflections which need to be taken into account and finally perhaps a tripod would help.
