I took another set of photos along 2CC this afternoon having been away 10 days.

As ever the photos start at the Market Street end.

The section of Cross Street as far as New Market is fully surfaced and has loading bays completed.

P1190680 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190683 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Between St Ann Street and King Street the southbound has been surfaced for some time and now all the northbound has been concreted and prepared for surfacing.

P1190687 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Stone sub base is being compacted

P1190689 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190690 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and concrete laid between the two lines.

P1190695 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

On Princess Street the work site has been re-configured part way to leave part of the footway alongside the Town Hall and the northbound line open now.

P1190698 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The southbound side is fenced off still but I am not convinced that the carriageway is being restored but I hope I am wrong.

P1190699 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190703 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Halfway along the street the traffic lane changes over to clear the track and allow the whole tramway to be fenced off again.

P1190701 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The rails for the final gap are lying in the compound.

P1190705 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and work to construct the last part of the southbound slab is well advanced.

P1190707 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190715 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In fact by the time I had been down Lower Mosley Street and was returning to head home they were pouring concrete on this section.

P1190857 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190862 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190865 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The northbound line now has rails right through without a gap.

P1190710 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190712 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In St Peters Square itself it isn't easy to determine exactly what is being done as there are so many work groups in action. But paving is a major activity still.

P1190717 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190719 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

All the shelter covings seem to be in place ready for lighting units.

P1190720 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

There was a crew removing the old lampposts.

P1190721 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190849 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

In this shot it does look as though only the 1CC side of the platforms will be ready for use. There is a distinct edge to the surface slabs.

P1190724 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The tram traffic signal controlling the 1CC northbound exit from St Peters Square is lit as are both the southbound signals as can probably just be seen in this shot.

P1190735 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The TVMs were being wired on the northbound platform.

P1190730 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Not a lot of change on the last bit of 2CC northbound track.. But I guess all the effort is on the 1CC side of things.

P1190741 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The compound in front of One St Peters Square has almost disappeared and a start has been made on linking the paving.

P1190742 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

A look up along 1CC southbound.

P1190744 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Paving gangs still hard at it.

P1190746 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The last of the site cabins was being removed outside One St Peters Square starting to allow some new views.

P1190829 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190827 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190824 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Section insulators on 2CC northbound and 1CC southbound.

P1190840 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190839 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The cladding panels on Two St Peters Square have continued to increase.

P1190852 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190853 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Still paving to complete at the junction of Mosley Street and Princess Street

P1190868 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190870 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

More to follow from Lower Mosley Street and Mosley Street....

Part 2 of today's magnus opus..

Lower Mosley Street as OCMCR told us earlier has been largely opened up with only the section between Windmill Street and the ramp fenced now.

There were still a lot of construction vehicles along here and road marking was in progress along with general tidying up.

P1190748 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Traffic signals lit.

P1190750 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190753 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190755 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190757 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The track up to the bottom of the ramp is complete now.

P1190759 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

with a bit of deterrent paving in place.

P1190761 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190762 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190774 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Following the discussion about the northbound signal by the points last week, I noticed at the moment there is no point indicator just a signal. Until 2CC I guess the points will be secured out of use so an indicator isn't needed really.

P1190772 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190776 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190779 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The breather switches at the bottom of the ramp have been reinstated.

P1190781 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Up on Mosley Street all the track is finished and all the temporary OLE poles and foundation blocks have gone.

P1190781 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Most of the paving is complete.

P1190875 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

with some final detailing to do. Pity about all the broken sections of double yellow line.

P1190876 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190878 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Just a small area outside the Art Gallery to do now.

P1190879 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Grouting in progress.

P1190880 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Trams have definitely run through on both 1CC lines as the running marks are clear to see.

Lets hope the weekend sees passenger service.

I took a few shots of the opened up garden at Deansgate Castlefield this afternoon. There is still a temporary fence alongside the inbound line and the section near the curve is fenced off.

Having had a tip off I made a quick dash down to see what I could photograph of the test trams this morning. In the process I bumped into pjm0512 who was in town catching up on 2CC construction. Obviously a fortuitous trip for him

Anyway there appeared to be a couple of doubles and a couple of singles testing between Trafford Depot, Queens Road Depot and Sheffield Street. The first to appear being 3105 and 3074 running across from Trafford to Queens Road, they made only a one way trip as far as I could see and they weren't hanging around!

Next to appear were 3050 and 3054 from Queens Road to Trafford.

Each time a tram passed through the orange army followed it back to site.

P1190956 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Next to be seen was 3023 from Trafford approaching on Lower Mosley Street.

P1190959 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_8085 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

It carried a special destination 'We're nearly there with St Peters Square'

DSC_8088 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_8089 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_8091 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

This turned right into Piccadilly Gardens to run to Sheffield Street.

DSC_8095 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Before returning 20 minutes later.

P1190962 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

DSC_8099 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

It was at this point that attention was divided as 3050 and 3054 reappeared on Lower Mosley Street and I nearly missed them.

I decided to call it a day and head for my Ashton tram from Piccadilly Gardens. As I was waiting 3050 and 3054 appeared presumably having reversed at Sheffield Street.

P1190970 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190972 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

They headed off back down Mosley Street.

P1190974 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

This then appeared on the Piccadilly bound PIDS

P1190978 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and 3003 sporting the special destination appeared waiting for a path to Sheffield Street.

They allowed what I assume was a Shaw to Piccadilly and my Ashton tram to pass before following the Ashton set down.

Whilst in town to take photos of the test trams I took one or two along Cross Street and Princess Street ad around St Peters Square.

The only sign of any work on Cross Street as I walked over the St Peters Square was a small team laying and compacting stone near King Street. I suppose it was all hands on deck in St Peters Square.

P1190885 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190888 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

The realigned highway on Princess Street has been surfaced.

P1190890 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

and some road markings have appeared.

P1190891 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190892 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

There is still a short section of track slab to lay.

P1190893 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190894 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190895 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

At Mosley Street temporary tarmac has been laid to deal with the missing stone paving.

P1190901 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

A box junction marking is in place at Mosley Street Princess Street lights now.

P1190904 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190905 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Even more of the Two St Peters Square facade is in place.

P1190908 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

Areas of temporary tarmac have appeared giving access and egress to and from the platforms.

P1190916 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190932 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190933 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

P1190935 by Steve Hyde, on Flickr

There will still be a lot of finishing off to do and from what I heard the site was being handed back to MPT from around lunchtime until tomorrow evening. The fencing was in the process of being rearranged to allow work to continue on some areas whilst trams run from Sunday. No doubt some areas will require overnight working.

Looking good! Love the sunny weather as well.

St Peters Sq will look great when finished, and I can't wait until the trams are going through all the way again.

My own record of the first day of trams in the revamped St Peters Square. Yes it would have looked better completely finished but my take on things is better to serve the passengers with a partially complete stop than make them suffer even longer than necessary.

A further set of 2CC photos taken today to look at what has been done in the last week since St Peters Square re-opened. I wasn't expecting a lot to be frank as most labour resource seemed to have been directed to getting SPS into a condition suitable for opening.

Anyway here we go. At Market Street junction as we have already been shown highway marking is in progress.

How Manchester's Metrolink system has become the biggest light rail network in the UK over the past 24 years

Whether building bridges across busy motorways or unearthing a Victorian cemetery and a former church crypt, building Metrolink has been both eventful and challenging for its engineers[...]

Some picture at St Peter Square that I took this afternoon.

PIDS at SPS saying "Trafford Bar" this is because Altrincham line was suspended for couple of hours this afternoon due to someone throwing jump leads onto overhead wires in Timperley area.

Few trams pics on south-board platform.

Another look at 2CC this lunchtime. Nothing greatly different to the other sets of photos posted of course.

They appeared to be pulling draw-ropes into the cable routes between Market Street and King Street.

There are now 3 headspans above Cross Street between St Anns Alley and King Street and some of the fixing bolts further along now have the eyes fitted ready.

The first I noticed is this attached to Cross Street Chapel.

Further towards Albert Square all the headspans seem to up now.

Although this one over the junction at Cross Street Princess Street still needs the top wires fitting.

note the unused bolts.

Over in Albert Square they have now uncovered the bases for 3 OLE poles which will take headspans from the building opposite.

The track is now linked right through on both lines.

Under that small heap of debris there is a very short straight section between the curves.

At the Peter Street end of St Peters Square that final section of the2CC northbound line had all the shuttering in place and was awaiting concrete at the time of my visit. The concrete was poured later in the afternoon.

Around St Peters Square stop the paving is coming along well now.

The area around the cross is complete although still fenced off.

A large part of the paving around the 2CC curves is now complete.

Next to 2CC northbound approach an further area has now got its concrete paving base.

The 2CC side of the southbound platform is coming on apace.

Slabs were being laid on the north end ramp of this platform.

No doubt this weekend's work programme and Exchange Square closure will see some significant progress some where along the route. Exactly what that is will be watched with interest.
