Neues Museum Berlin

The Neues Museum was built between 1843 and 1855 according to plans by Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The museum was closed at the beginning of World War II in 1939, and was heavily damaged during the bombing of Berlin. The rebuilding was overseen by the English architect David Chipperfield. The museum officially reopened in October 2009.

Exhibits include the Egyptian and Prehistory and Early History collections, as it did before the war. The artifacts it houses include the iconic bust of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti...

I still don't know what to think about it. Guess I have to see it in person first.

The interior isn't all that bad, but they should have at least reconstructed the facade.

I think its just "nice" with at least a reconstruction on the outside it would have been really great!
But the collection of art treasures is surely worth a visit on its own.

You don't have Senatsbaudirektor Hans Stimman anymore, that's the problem.

Are you even a Berliner?

Great building and great museum. But I don't like Chipperfield's idea to retain the war damages of the building. If you do an expensive reconstruction, why not doing it properly? If people would have done this after every war, cities would look extremely weird and unreal.

'Honesty' is definitely overrated by modernists.

The treasures inside the museum are amazing! But I must admit, I am no fan of these horrendous "modern" additions being attached to beautiful historic structure like this. It's almost as bad as that tacky faux schloß they are building where the Palast once stood. However, that being said, it could always be worse and it's better than nothing.

Well, Berlin might be the only city in the world you could do this to...

Lots of Egyptian artefacts - you can still clearly see bomb damage form the outside of the building.
