It doesn’t look so fancy as the Desiro or the Flirt but as we saw in those two looks aren’t everything. We already have trains made in the USSR and no they are not the most comfortable but at least the heating is excellent. Apparently we are getting the deluxe version this time with air conditioning, cameras and all the other fancy gadgets.

I think when Serbian trains are coming, they looks more European than this one. Serbia and the former of Yugoslavia have very European traditions at the railways. And the Serbian railways is a part of the European standard gauge network.

And look at the couplers at the train. It's the Russian standard called SA-3. I'm sure about the Serbian trains are going to have something more typical European like Scharfenberg or something similar.

Our trains will also be a little narrower than the Russian ones.

RA2 is crap. Ask from LG(Lithuanian railways), they bought 4 RA2 and they can tell what crap it is. I wrote a little about it too, I copy here:

Metrovagonmash, just won the Serbian Railways tender to supply ten RA2.

Oh deem. You just won a big headache. You got the worst one. Till now I still don't understand why LG bought them( I guess some political games to make better relationships to Russia or something like that ). But it has been the worst deal for LG. These RA2 seem cheap but when you need to run this s**t then this cheap turns really expensive. They have always some faults that need to be repaired ( long standing time in depots and need resource to repair, it all costs $$$$ ). I have talked to LG drivers. They also commit that these RA2 are strongly unreliable ( lot's of faults especially in electronics ) and make huge economical loss. There have been several times when BRAND NEW RA2 was broken down while serving some line and needed extra loco to pull it back to depot. Poor passengers! One LG RA2 unit had a collision on railway crossing about two years ago and I don't know if Transmasholding has supplied spare parts by now. By the way people talk that when first exemplar of RA2 went on testing circle then nothing left of it after testing and it was sold to spare parts

Serbia maid a superb deal and got great cars from SNCF. But what happened now? Why they buy trains that have really bad reputation? Didn't they make any homework. They really should ask for some information from LG depot in Radviliskis where RA2 are maintained.

I have been in RA2 when it served a line. It really seemed like some cheap plastic box. Bad dynamics, high noise level.... Let some rail expert see RA2's trucks from the picture. I'm sure he/she can immediately say that these are really robust and give uncomfortable ride. Also look the design. Who would buy so ugly DMU. It scares people away

Do you have some details about Talgo trains (4 units) for Serbian railways? What is delivery time? Which route would be served by this trains?

Hubert, check the Bosnia-Herzegovina thread, you can find the Talgos there recenlty delivered the first batch.

this is an extract fron a newspaper back in 2006:
TALGO, Spain, has won a 67.6 million [euro] contract from Bosnia and Herzegovina Railways Public Corporation (BHZJK) to supply nine passenger trains.

The fleet of nine-coach tilting trains has been financed by the Spanish Loan Institute and are the first new trains to be purchased by BHZJK.

The first four trains will be equipped for overnight services and are due for delivery in 2010. The remaining day coaches will be delivered in 2011. The contract includes the supply of spares and maintenance.

Well as far as I can tell the production of Metrovagonmash has a good quality. All the trainsets in the Sofia Metro are made there and are quite easy to service.

And this is not the case with the Desiros, so I think that ZS made the right choice.

Good news from Serbia, the contract is revised so instead 10 we’re getting 12 diesel trains.
Besides that plenty of existing coaches are getting reconstructed:
