MIHAJLOVIC: A year to relocate railway station from the center

Monday, 01/25/2016|15:45 | Source: Tanjug

VP of the Government of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlovic, has said today that for the complete relocation of the railway station from the city to Prokop station will take a year. She mentioned that that one, as any other projects where the works have been in progress, are not a part of the membership campaign and that they will not halt infrastructure projects.
- It is a huge work to relocation the station in Prokop and we are stepping into the second stage, we will for sure need a year to relocate it but we will – Mihajlovic said for TV Pink before tomorrow’s opening of the station after 40 years.

- Construction workers stick to deadline, we are opening the first stage of Prokop tomorrow . It is a question what has been done in 40 years, time is lost but we ended – Mihajlovic outlined, adding that this is exactly the thing that differs current one from previous ones – it works and keeps promises.

Mihajlovic added that funds were left from the loan from Kuwait which was used to fund current works and that now

Negotiations with companies on constriction of building and a shopping mall should follow. She announced this year procurement of new trains will continue, as well as railroads rehabilitation of 300 km, that project documentation for Belgrade-Budapest railroad has been completed and that by the end of the year, rehabilitation of Belgrade-Bar railroad is expected.

Will there be an improved accesibility by public transport (traimway?) included in phase 2?
Currently the station is in the middle of nowhere, and the lack of public transport connections to downtown is a serious disatvantage compared to the old station, which will make railway transport less attractive (compared eg to bus transport - or will the bus station also be relocated to somewhere in the middle of nowhere?).

Yes to both. They are building access roads in the second phase. And yes the bus station will also be moved to the middle of nowhere, next to Novi Beograd train station.

Bus station is to be at Novi Beograd after that station is reconstructed, but to my knowledge that is still a rather vague project, no timetable for that yet.

Why? There is direct access to the Pancevo bridge already, no?

Vinca bridge is being envisioned as a part of a Belgrade's rail (and motorway) bypass towards Pancevo, to be used for rail cargo only, therefore having only one track. Currently, all rail cargo traffic over Danube goes through Belgrade over Pancevo bridge.

Yes, dangerous cargo can't go through city subway tunnels

Guys, what about ticket offices, shops, ATMs etc.? Platforms might be nice, but especially when people arrive here from Zurich, Vienna, Moscow, Sofia, Salonica, one needs a bit of infrastructure beyond platforms. Anything visible yet, or will this be left until after the shopping mall is built?

Mnjeh...not in the forseeable future. They will start building access roads probably sometime in May, but so far no funding for the completion of station building and the shopping mall is provided.

Currently station inly operates trains from Belgrade to Novi Sad and vice versa, as well as Belgrade's commuter rail.
