Been trying to work this one out all day.... Pic says it was somewhere in sydney..... any ideas???? seems to be flooded??

I was thinking just wet rather than flooded. Reiby Place springs to mind, but the 1943 aerial shots aren't detailed enough to confirm the alignment. The lottery booth suggests it's leading to/from a transport point.
As for Bridge St, it's interssting that the only visible addition to the southern side east of Pitt St since 1884 is the 1912 Education building. Well, and the extensions to Lands, but the core of the buidling is already there. |

Thanks Cul - I looked at that pic yesterday in my search, but clearly not closely enough. What threw me is that it is flooded (covered roof on arcade), when I was looking for an open laneway.

I atke it that extract is from a 1960s publication? Of course, the Strand is the only one left.
There is a "most beautiful arcades" thread, with a poll which the QVB seems to be winning (is it an arcade?) - I prefer the Strand in Sydney and the Block in Melbourne. |

The Sydney Arcade Entrance still stands on King Street, although it is not obvious so you have to really look for it.
Some of the others still exist in a form, like the Piccadilly, but just not it's original architecture sadly
